Day 2 of ESL One Kuala Lumpur brought defeats for several strong teams, and unexpected victories for other competitors that looked unimpressive on day 1.

It seems that the Chinese teams are in great shape right now. LGD Gaming are still trying to find their rhythm, but Azure Ray and G2.iG are both leading their respective groups with a record of 6 W – 2 L. Azure Ray obtained their 6 points by winning twice and drawing twice. G2.iG obtained them by winning three times and losing once.

Other teams that have done well so far are Gaimin Gladiators (2 W – 2 D – 0 L), Team Falcons (2 W – 1 D – 1 L), and Tundra Esports (2 W – 1 D – 1 L). On the third and final day of the group stage, we will find out who are the qualified teams and who goes home.

Judging by the current standings, Wawitas Sagazes and 9Pandas will be eliminated, along with LGD Gaming and Blacklist International.

The teams that will win group A should be Azure Ray and Gaimin Gladiators. In group B, the two winners are likely to be G2.iG and Team Falcons.

Day 2 results

On the second day of ESL One Kuala Lumpur, two teams won both of their matches: Gaimin Gladiators and G2.iG. In the case of Gladiators, their wins were not that impressive because the opponents they faced, Blacklist and Wawitas, were relatively weak. But G2.iG had to beat Liquid and Falcons, which are two of the strongest teams in group B.

It seems that Monet and xNova have not forgotten how Dota 2 works. These players used to fight for the Aegis of Champions at The International some years ago. Monet finished 3rd in 2017 with LFY, while xNova finished 2nd in 2018 and 3rd in 2019 with PSG.LGD.

For xNova, last season was a complete disappointment. But now he’s back in China and he’s doing better than expected.

Falcons showed that they can bleed. On day 1 they looked unstoppable. But on day 2, they only managed to win one game out of three. They even drew against 9Pandas, a team that got completely destroyed by everyone else.

In part, this lack of consistency is natural at this point. Their roster is new and will require months to achieve the fluency required to reach the top.
