After the Grand Final of Worlds 2022, in which T1 lost against an underdog and ruined Faker’s dreams, the legendary player will get another opportunity to become world champion this year. Because in the semifinals, T1 managed to beat the strongest team in the race, JD Gaming, and secured a spot in the final match of the tournament.

To make the situation even better for Faker, the other Grand Finalist will be Weibo Gaming, one of the weakest Chinese representatives, which somehow managed to defeat Bilibili Gaming in the semifinals. The match was very tough but in the end, the underdog won, giving T1 another supposedly easy Grand Final. But will they win this time?

Last year, nobody gave DragonX a chance. Faker’s team even had a 2-1 advantage in the Grand Final. But everything went wrong for him in games 4 and 5. This time there’s no excuse. Weibo finished LPL Spring and LPL Summer in 5th-6th place. Compared to T1, they are much weaker. But they’ve been beating strong teams at this edition of Worlds.

In the Swiss Stage, Weibo defeated NRG, MAD Lions, and Fnatic. They lost against G2 Esports and KT Rolster. In the playoffs, they once again defeated NRG (3-0) and then Bilibili, shocking everyone with their performance. If they lose the Grand Final, everyone will agree that they were supposed to lose and that they’ve already achieved a lot more than was expected of them.

Semifinals results

The first match of the semifinals of Worlds 2023 saw Bilibili losing games 1, 3, and 5. There’s no particular drafting error that led to their downfall. Rather, during the games themselves, their opponents found clever ways to exploit their weak moments and avoid the fights whenever they were strong.

Among the champions used extensively by Bilibili were Vi, Jax, Sejuani, and Caitlyn. Jax was used in the most successful way (2 W – 0 L). For Weibo, it wasn’t so much about the picks. They were all about timings.

In the second match, T1 won a lot more convincingly than we anticipated. Many thought they would lose, but after game 1 we know they were in great shape. It only took them 25 minutes to get the job done. They lost game 2 with Faker playing Azir, but then gave him the same champion in games 3 and 4, and ended up winning quite easily.
