According to the circuit organizers, KC Pioneers, the Rocket League Women’s Car Ball has been suspended mid-season due to “lack of commercial support.”

After reactions from community members, who were totally against what happened, Pioneers announced that season 5 could be put on pause and said:

“We will put Rocket League Women’s Car Ball season 5 on hiatus until new ownership is established or additional sponsors are secured.”

Women’s Car Ball (WCB)

The Women’s Car Ball (WCB), or as we used to know it, the Women’s Car Ball Championship, is wholly owned by the North American esports organization KC Pioneers. This series of Rocket League women’s tournaments started in 2019 and was known as esports’ most important women’s tournament. However, the fifth season started at the end of 2022 and has now been put on hiatus.

KC Pioneers stated on Discord that they had “significant commitments” to help get the league funded and the prize pool to be distributed at the start of the season. However, the organization notes that these sponsors have materialized longer and cannot make “the only financial commitment.”

KC Pioneers seeks new owners

The organization announces searching for new owners to take over this league. However, until they find one or have new sponsors, season 5 will be put on hold.

The league’s statement reads:

“We regret that the obstacles to obtaining additional financial support have been more difficult than anticipated. We will inform WCB teams and community members as soon as we have more information.”

The community has strongly criticized the organizers for halting operations, arguing that the season should not have started if the money to fund it was unavailable.

Jeff Simpkins, COO of Williams Resolve, has posted a video on Twitter explaining what happened and said:

“WCB has basically done what eSports organizations always do: ‘we’re waiting for sponsors…’…. Well, you don’t organize something unless you have the money to do it.”

“You either fund it, or you pass it on to someone who can fund it, but you have to do it now because it’s not fair to any of the players, or the staff, or other organizations that are putting money into the scene.”

Separately, Sophia de Ipanema, a former WBC league director, said on Twitter that she had been offered the paid position as a part-time job and had started working for the league but has not yet been paid for it.

It is unclear what this means for the organizations competing in this women’s Rocket League league or their players. Well, it seems that everyone has been left in limbo. Several major organizations decided to join the league before the fifth season:

  • G
  • Misfits
  • Endpoint
  • Williams Resolve
  • Luminosity
