The fact that you lose a VALORANT game does not mean you have wasted your time. According to Riot Games, the system counts MMR even if you lose games.
Yes, Riot tries to ensure that all players enjoy their games even if they lose. That is why VALORANT is much more challenging in each new episode they release. Understanding how MMRs and RRs work in the game can help you rank up much faster. In other words, winning isn’t everything in this tactical shooter. Instead, you can get closer to your desired rank if you lose by playing well.
Ranked Fact Friday!(Light Night Demon Edition)
I've talked about this, but I want to reiterate it. Your MMR can go up on a loss! Your one MMR, which is your rank in the entirety of ranked and where your RR pulls you to, is made up of two MMR's. Encounter and Win/Loss.

Rank up in VALORANT even by losing games
Obviously, the more games you win, your rank will be higher. There is no doubt about that. But understanding the MMR that VALORANT has is key to this process. In episode 6, which has just been released, winning or losing games takes priority regarding earning bonus RR. But you can deal with fewer losses if you know how to manage your ECS in the best possible way.
RR
Rank Rating, or RR, is what reflects your MMR. So if you have a good MMR, you will see an increase in your RR after each game. It all depends on your MMR, as this is composed of the Win/Loss MMR and the Encounter MMR.
Riot considers this MMR of wins and losses, especially in the higher ranks. On the other hand, players of lower rank will be given bonus RR depending on their MMR of Encounter, that is to say, how their performance has been in the game. In other words, if you are a lower rank, do your best in your game, as you will be rewarded.
Riot Games Senior Competitive Designer EvrMoar said:
“Especially at lower ranks, where encounter MMR carries more weight, if you have a great match where you win your duels, help take the site, and have an impact by using your skills, you can increase your encounter MMR more than the MMR reduction from wins/losses from losing.”
We weight them differently at different ranks. Lower ranks use more Encounter weight, and higher ranks index more on Win/Loss. Win/Loss MMR is straight forward; it goes up on a win and down on a loss.

So, if you played well, planted the Spike, had suitable ADR, and played as a team, you should gain MMR even if you lost the game. Over time, the game’s system will give you a higher RR when you win. If you’ve been earning lower RR even after winning, it’s probably because your net MMR is low.
So, especially in lower ranks where Encounter MMR is weighted higher, if you have a great game where you are winning your duels, helping take the site, and having an impact by using your abilities, you can raise your Encounter MMR more than the Win/Loss MMR reduction from losing.

This can help you reach the rank you have always dreamed of. For it doesn’t matter if you win or lose. If your performance in the game is good, you can rank up just the same. So, if you are below Diamond or Platinum, avoid throwing games and taking echo rounds lightly.
What is the MMR encounter in Valorant?
The Encounter MMR comes into play after the Win/Loss MMR. You get the ELO from receiving assists, using skills, and winning Valorant duels. If your Encounter MMR is good, the odds of you losing rank are low.
