Dante “Danteh” Cruz, one of the most experienced and veteran players in the Overwatch competitive scene, becomes a free agent after announcing his departure from LA Gladiators. Now, the player must look for a new home to play the rest of the 2023 season.

There is no doubt that this is surprising news considering this veteran player’s ability, quality, and skill. In addition, being in Unrestricted Free Agency makes him one of the most coveted players in the competitive Overwatch scene.

LA Gladiators announce the departure of Danteh

Through a statement on their Twitter account, LA Gladiators announced the departure of Dante “Danteh” Cruz from their Overwatch lineup. There is no doubt that this news surprises the community, as both the player and the team demonstrated a great level regionally and internationally.

As we mentioned, this is a surprise for the entire Overwatch community, and all OWL teams, as the player joined LA Gladiators at the end of the Pro-Am tournament played in early 2023. However, after a somewhat disappointing spring season for the team, they decide to turn their situation around, and Danteh is one of those sacrificed.

About Danteh

This is the second opportunity in his career that Danteh becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent, as let’s remember that he was released from the Houston Outlaws at the end of 2022. However, his stint in free agency didn’t last long, as he signed with the Gladiators a month later.

There is no doubt that Danteh is one of the best players out there in the competitive Overwatch scene. In addition to his incredible talent taking on the DPS role, now as a Tank, he is one of the strongest in the entire scene. On the other hand, it is also worth noting that he is one of the few players who belong in OWL since his first season.

Danteh’s OWL started with the San Francisco Shock at the end of 2017, but he could not play all the season games due to his age. However, when he reached the OWL regulation age, the player showed all his extraordinary skills and thus caught the attention of the Houston Outlaws.

Then, when the game’s goal changed, Danteh had to transition to Tank, and, no doubt, he continued to amaze everyone with his excellent level of play. Since then, Danteh has been considered one of the best Tanks in the league, and thanks to his excellent level of play, the Outlaws finished in third place in the playoffs for the 2022 season.

Danteh’s future

After Danteh jumped to the Gladiators in a terrible 2022-23 offseason, there is no doubt that everything indicated that this team would be one of the best in the league, as they had one of the best Tanks in the game’s history. Then, the team got off to a good start in the Pro-Am, finishing second in the tournament.

However, the team started to drop their performance from then on, even though they were left out of the Midseason Madness.

After the announcement by LA Gladiators, Danteh shared a Tweet with an image referring to “Freedom.” However, hours later, he released a statement referencing his retirement from the competitive Overwatch scene.
