Two stars of The Guard to become free agents

There is no doubt that this 2023 season has been extraordinary for The Guard, the best team in the Americas in the VALORANT Level 2 competitive scene. In addition to being among the best in the tournaments played The Guard boys put the icing on the cake by winning the VCT 2023 Ascension Americas, thus earning a spot to play in the VCT Americas League in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. However, the team has a problem now: they must retain two stars.

We are talking specifically about Jacob “valyn” Batio and Michael “neT” Bernet, two of The Guard’s stars, who will become free agents in October. As a result, The Guard will have to make concrete and agreeable proposals for both players to decide to stay with the team.

According to independent esports journalist George Geddes, neT and valyn will become free agents in October 2023.

For now, it is unclear what decision both players will make, but if they decide to look for a new home and not renew their contract with The Guard, they could become two of the most highly rated players heading into the 2024 VCT in the NA region. However, after the team’s excellent run in the Challengers scene, the players may decide to stay with the organization.

Similarly, it is worth noting that valyn and neT were key pillars of The Guard’s success at the VCT 2023 Ascension Americas. Both players are the team’s stars, and undoubtedly, The Guard has to go to great lengths to keep them on the team.

About the players

Talking specifically about the players and their stats in the season, we have to highlight that valyn carried The Guard in the Final against M80, as he had the highest ACS of his team besides signing 9 triple-kills in the series.

On the other hand, neT showed an excellent ability to annihilate enemies by Headshots and had impressive stats of kills, assists, and KAST.

After what has been observed throughout the season, there is no doubt that both neT and valyn have all the potential needed to shatter VALORANT’s Tier 1 scene in the Americas. However, it is unclear whether it will be with The Guard or a new team.

Currently, The Guard can rest somewhat easily, as they have two months to solve this problem and renew the contract of their two stars. However, if they fail, they will have to take a step forward to look for two players of the stature of neT and valyn to be at the height of the VCT 2024 and 2025 competition.
