The popular streaming platform Twitch announced that the TwitchCon Paris would take place in Paris as scheduled, despite the riots currently taking place in the French capital.

The TwitchCon Paris is set to go ahead as scheduled, according to a statement from the streaming platform, which stated that the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles isn’t a focal point of the riots currently breaking out in the French capital. The protests started earlier this week after a police officer shot a 17-year-old person named Nahel Merzouk in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. The platform is closely monitoring the situation in and around Paris, noting that the event would not be affected.

Many participants are worried for their safety even though much of the riots and protests in Paris are occurring on the opposite side of the city from the venue.  Kick ambassador Tyler “Trainwreckstv” took a jab at Twitch, saying that the streaming service hoped that the participants would decide to cancel the event on their own rather than the platform doing so and losing money. The cost of a two-day ticket for this year’s streamer conference in Europe, according to the official website, is €125, and a one-day ticket is €75.

Many well-known content creators have already confirmed their attendance at TwitchCon 2023 Paris, including Hasan “HasanAbi,” Lucas “Lu K,” Arbmeis, fishc0p, Nicholas “Sapnap,” Karl Jacobs, Austin “AustinShow,” George “GeorgeNotFound,” and others. Scheduled to take place on July 7 and 8, the event will include musical performances, interactive sessions, a cosplay competition, and Twitch’s second drag showcase. Also, the well-known Minecraft creators Karl Jacobs, SapNap, and GeorgeNotFound will host a live episode of their podcast Banter.

Will France’s first TwitchCon succeed?

The popular streamer convention TwitchCon will visit France for the first time in 2023. As the event has been extremely popular and successful, this year’s Twitchcon in Paris was expected to draw more attendees than ever before. The last TwitchCon in Amsterdam attracted around 14,500 people, which is a significant increase over Berlin in 2019. However, the number might not be as high as anticipated given the riots that are occurring in various areas of the French capital.

Following a protracted break caused by Covid-19 restrictions, Twitch resumed live, in-person events last year and held TwitchCon in San Diego and Amsterdam. At TwitchCon San Diego last year, a controversy broke out after Twitch announced that the event would need masks. Twitch altered its decision and mandated masks at TwitchCon San Diego in response to significant social media reactions. The famed foam pit at TwitchCon brought more attention to San Diego when a streamer injured her back after falling off a mechanical bull there.
