After releasing two of their players a few days ago, Turtle Troop has announced the signing of two well-known players in the VALORANT competitive scene in NA.
Turtle Troop, formerly known as Squirtle Squad and renamed due to branding issues with Nintendo, is one of the newest teams to qualify for the NA VCT playoffs. In addition, the team recently announced the addition of two veterans, Tanner “TiGG” Spanu and Anthony “mummAy” DiPaolo heading into this 2023 season.
Turtle Tropp signs TiGG and mummAy
Turtle Trop, still unable to find an organization to represent, announced via its Twitter account on Wednesday, February 22, the signing of TiGG and mummAy to its VALORANT lineup. TiGG comes from Shopify Rebellion, while mummAy is from Team Envy.

Turtle Tropp’s bad start led to these changes
There is no doubt that Turtle Trop’s bad start in the Challengers has been remarkable. In the first week, they fell in the series to Shopify Rebellion with a crushing 0-2, demonstrating many problems in terms of collective performance. Unfortunately, the second week was not entirely different; for a while, they started with a win in Fracture against FaZe Clan, but they ended up losing Pearl and Ascent with a crushing 4-13. As a result, the team has a 0-2 record in the table.
Following these two losses, the team released Anthony “Okeanos” Nguyen and Mohammed “Harmful” Choudhary. This news was announced by the players themselves on their social networks, as the team did not confirm absolutely anything about it.

TiGG will be the IGL of Turtle Tropp, and mummAy will have a flexible role
Just as he did at LG (now Shopify Rebellion), TiGG joins Turtle Tropp as IGL, taking a position that has been vacant since the team’s inception. Remember that Turtle Tropp didn’t have a defined IGL, which made it very difficult to act in the rounds.
With an IGL as experienced as TiGG, the team hopes to wake up and start winning games to climb up the table. Undoubtedly, with this experienced player’s strategies and excellent skills, the team will surely improve.
MummAy, for his part, always had a flexible role when playing for Team Envy. The player alternated between roles during this time; switching from Jett to Sage or Astra to Omen. Now we will have to wait and see if the player takes on a specific role or continues with his flexible characteristic, which he is very good at.
On the other hand, it is worth noting that mummAy returns to the competitive scene after about a year of inactivity. This is something that can certainly be detrimental to their style of play. MummAy was part of Team Envy for over a year, but in August 2021, he was benched.
We are all anticipating what this new Turtle Tropp lineup may bring. The team faces BreakThru in week three of the NA Challengers on February 28.
Turtle Tropp’s lineup looks as follows:
- Tanner “TiGG” Spanu
- Anthony “mummAy” DiPaolo
- Jack “Add3r” Hayashi
- Peter “Governor” No
- Matthew “Wedid” Suchan
