We are getting closer and closer to meeting the first champion team in the Counter-Strike 2 era since the IEM Sydney is reaching its end, and the first team that got its place in the Grand Final is Complexity Gaming.
The North American squad continues with a spectacular demonstration of quality and that, right now, what has been done is not a coincidence. In addition, Complexity has not been an easy task in this tournament, as it had to face the Russian squad BetBoom Team and G2 Esports in these playoffs. However, as was presumed for several weeks, Counter-Strike in NA looks set to revive in CS2.
On the other hand, G2 Esports could not display its full potential, and some problems players still have with the new game became apparent. However, this is just the beginning, and we hope the team will be much better each time in the game.
Let’s see what happened in the IEM Sydney semi-final between COL and G2.
Complexity apply a clean sweep against G2 Esports
We expected a close and very balanced match, as COL has been playing spectacularly well in the last few exchanges, and G2 Esports has a superstar squad. However, the North American squad stepped to the plate to display their full potential and pull out a solid 2-0 victory.
The series took place at Anubis and Ancient.
Anubis
It all started at Anubis, Complexity’s map pick, where we saw a very balanced match in the first half but tilted in COL’s favor in the second.
In the first half, Complexity’s defense was very good, and, thanks to Ricky “floppy” Kemery, they managed to take the victory by a tight score of 7-5. This, undoubtedly, left many possibilities open but a minimum margin of error for G2 because, in the MR12 format, everything is much more violent.
Finally, at the change of sides, the North American squad could win 6 of the 9 rounds to take the victory by 13-8 and start on the right foot in this semifinal.
.@Complexity prove the doubters wrong as they open up the #IEM Sydney Semi-Final with a 13-8 Victory over @G2esports on Anubis!

Ancient
Then, in the second map, Ancient, things changed completely. COL maintained their extraordinary pace of play, commanded by floppy and Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, to take a resounding victory and secure their ticket to the Grand Final.
In the first half, we again observed a great defensive level by the COL boys, who achieved an excellent victory by 9-3. Finally, at the change of sides, G2 Esports completely faded away as they could not win a single round and ended up losing 3-13. As a result, Complexity Gaming became the first finalist of IEM Sydney 2023.
.@Complexity HAVE DEMOLISHED @G2esports 2-0 to advance to the #IEM Sydney GRAND FINALS!
