Four matches, not a single upset. That’s the summary of the first day of TI12’s final weekend.

We pretty much knew what was going to happen even before it did. The matches looked a bit unbalanced on paper and they proved to be even more unbalanced when they were finally played.

However, despite the fact that three of the four matches ended with a 2-0 score for the favorite, we had the opportunity to watch some amazing Dota action. Out of the nine games that ended up being played, seven lasted for more than 40 minutes. And one of those seven actually lasted for 87 minutes, which is an extremely rare occurrence.

As expected, the only stomp was registered in the match between nouns and Gaimin Gladiators. The team led by Quinn didn’t win all three DPC Majors for no reason this year. They really are one of the strongest competitors in the race, and it’s arguably a rather unfortunate event that they had to start the playoffs in the lower bracket.

Upper bracket results

In the upper bracket, Team Spirit proved to be just a bit stronger than Team Liquid. Their way of playing wasn’t exactly novel, which is part of the reason why Liquid did so well against them.

The preparation proved to be extremely valuable. But in game 3, after gaining a 5000 gold lead before the 20-minute mark, Liquid made a few mistakes that cost them the game.

In this series, we had the opportunity to witness the rise of Weaver. This hero is starting to prove his effectiveness against picks like Spectre and other melee heroes that want to hit their targets as hard as they can and fight them directly. Being extra slippery, Weaver can outplay them all.

In the Chinese dispute, LGD Gaming proved to be one step ahead of Azure Ray. Both teams played well but it was obvious that LGD had the better strategy in both games.

Lower bracket results

In the lower bracket, Gaimin Gladiators destroyed nouns using heroes like Weaver, Dazzle, and Alchemist. They even picked Pangolier, just to show that he is still viable. This match was a complete stomp.

The other lower bracket match, between BetBoom Team and Virtus.pro, was very fun to watch. In both games, BetBoom picked Invoker and used him to perfection. The games were long and very eventful, having around 1 kill per minute.
