This year saw many interesting esports events, with legendary teams emerging to glory at all of the big games in the industry. From VALORANT to League of Legends, CS:GO, to Call of Duty, here are our picks for the best esports teams of 2022.

LOUD

The 2022 VALORANT season could be described as a year-long battle between Optic and LOUD, as the first major event of 2022, the VCT Masters Reykjavik, saw both teams go head-to-head in the finals, with Optic victorious but having the final say LOUD as the two teams faced off again in the Finals of the 2022 VCT Champions, also known as the VALORANT World Championship. LOUD clinched victory in Istanbul, securing the title of Best VALORANT Team of 2022.

Tundra Esports (Dota 2)

At the DOTA 2 World Championship, The International 2022, Tundra Esports shone this year. The best teams in the world were in attendance, but it was European team Tundra Esports that dominated the World Championship, and in quite a dominant way. Tundra Esports emerged first from their group, dropping just one game in the main tournament to win the World Championship 9-1.

100 Thieves (CoD)

Like some of the other franchises in the Call of Duty League, 100 Thieves wouldn’t be where it is today without the first-person shooter. Esports organizations like Optic and FaZe Clan are giants outside of Call of Duty but have also proven their dominance in COD esports. Both franchises are eligible for a Call of Duty League Championship, but 100 Thieves has only finished runners-up once through 2022.

But this year it was different. After qualifying for the 2022 CDL Championship and escaping a thriller against Boston Breach in the Quarterfinals, the LA Thieves have never looked back, fighting their way through the bout en route to their first-ever CDL Championship.

FaZe Clan (CS:GO)

There have been five big CS:GO events this year with prize pools of at least $1 million, and FaZe Clan has won three of them. In the first half of the year, there was no team in the world that could beat FaZe, as they won events like Katowice, IEM Cologne, and the PGL Major Antwerp. And while in the second half of the year they weren’t quite as while glorious, they still managed a respectable third-place finish at the BLAST Premier: World Final. Overall, FaZe Clan has been significantly better than the competition this year.

DRX (LoL)

Heading into this year’s Worlds, DRX was a latecomer in almost everyone’s minds and certainly not seen by anyone as a threat to winning the League of Legends Worlds. In fact, it seemed like Gen.G or T1 would take over this year after their great years of being the best League of Legends team in the world. But the story behind DRX and their impossible run from the play-in stage to the finals is a story that will be told for a long time. Defeating every top team on their way to the World Championship, DRX is one of the best underdog stories in esports history.
