LEC Summer Split starts in two weeks. Its results will determine who goes to Worlds 2023, so everyone wants to do well.

Unfortunately for Western Europe, the competitive level of LoL in this region has been quite low recently. We saw at MSI 2023 that apart from G2 Esports, not a single team in this region has any hope in international competitions.

For Team Heretics, the decision to bring back Victor “Flakked” Lirola may prove to be a good one. The player already competed for them in Winter Split and Spring Split. Although the results were not great (eighth and ninth place respectively), the player himself is very experienced and he used to compete for G2 Esports.

What will Heretics this split?

Heretics have a very interesting roster, with players from multiple countries and even totally unusual places, such as Japan. However, some of these players, including Flakked and Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, are exceptionally good. What seems to be lacking is a strong captain who can improve the team’s strategy.

League of Legends is a game that’s won through superior tactics and strategy. Individual performance matters, but not as much as in other games. If you play Valorant or CS:GO, your individual performance will make a big difference, and one exceptional player can realistically carry a whole team.

But in LoL, results are achieved by well-coordinated efforts and every small decision is important. The best teams seem to have a very good understanding of where the enemy’s weak point is and what needs to be done to hit where it hurts.

We regularly see this with South Korean and Chinese teams. They always know in advance what they’re going to do and how things will unfold. They understand the limits of every champion and where everyone on the team needs to be to achieve optimal results.

The game is often decided in a few team fights or even a few skirmishes in the laning stage. Knowing how to approach such situations can be the difference between winning and losing.

In Heretics’ case, we haven’t seen them reading the game very well. They often have the impression that they’re executing a winning rotation when in fact they are completely compromising their position and ability to farm. Unlike other MOBA games, LoL has a very small margin of error. One or two mistakes and you’re out.
