In his recent stream, prominent Twitch streamer Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek expressed his views on how CS2 can be the next big thing. He claims that Counter-Strike 2 could literally take over with just one improvement.

Valve’s recent announcement of CS2 – the upgraded version of the immensely popular first-person shooter game has created a lot of buzz and excitement. Furthermore, it is showing no signs of slowing down the hype surrounding it even after two weeks. Numerous professional streamers and players have shared their insights and perspectives on the game’s potential, adding to the ongoing conversation. Shroud is no exception when it comes to expressing his thoughts on CS2, his opinions carry significant weight within the FPS gaming community.

Shroud: CS2 need to improve its matchmaking

Shroud emphasises the need to improve matchmaking in CS2 to appeal to a more player base. He believes that a better matchmaking system would mean players are matched with others of a similar rank and skill level, making the game fairer and more enjoyable. It would also be useful to have more information available about the ranking system so players can see where they stand.

Undoubtedly, Shroud made a valid point concerning the issue of uneven matchmaking in CS. Players of the game have long raised concerns about being paired with opponents of higher or lower ranks. Even if one manages to find opponents with comparable skill levels for a game or two, they often end up being matched with the same players repeatedly, which can lead to a sense of boredom and monotony.

CS2 can reach five times its current players count

Just before the official announcement of Counter Strike 2, the concurrent player counts for CS:GO peaked at 1,320,219. However, after the announcement, the player count rose to an all-time high of 1,519,457. This increase in player count demonstrates the potential of the upgraded version of the game. It’s not surprising that Shroud believes that the player count could reach five million with some improvements, particularly in the matchmaking system. Besides, it’s possible that CS2 could achieve this level of success even without implementing Shroud’s advice on matchmaking improvements. However, the question remains, how long will this last? This will ultimately depend on any further changes or upgrades Valve may make.

What else CS2 can improve?

CS2 should significantly work to improve its gameplay by enhancing its anti-cheat system and introducing new and innovative game modes. This would address the persistent issue of hacking and cheating that has been a thorn in the side of many players in current CS:GO. By implementing a robust and reliable anti-cheat system, CS:GO can eliminate the use of cheats and hacks, thereby creating a more level playing field for all players. Additionally, introducing new game modes would add a level of excitement and freshness to the game, which can attract new players and keep existing ones engaged.

Valve must improve its handling bugs and glitches in CS:GO, as is typical in PvP/FPS games. Riot Games’ Valorant sets an example by introducing patches regularly to fix glitches and considering community suggestions. Valve should learn from this and follow suit.

Currently, in beta, only 3% of the active player base has been granted access to test the latest version of CS2. The worldwide release of the game is expected to be available to everyone by the summer of 2023.
