The VCT Ascension 2023 EMEA Group Stage is just a few hours away, and we have two teams that have completely dominated the scene in their respective groups, SAW and Apeks.

At the start of this tournament, the spotlight was on these two teams, but we also had Team Falcons and Case Esports, both of which were looking to pull off an upset in Group B. However, the predictions have been fulfilled so far in this important tournament, and everything seems to indicate that both Apeks and Saw are called to fight for that coveted place in the VCT EMEA League.

Likewise, there is nothing definite so far, and there is still a lot to be played, so we must wait for the development of each one of the remaining matches.

Let’s see what has happened in the VCT Ascension 2023 EMEA.

SAW and Apeks get their third win of the Group Stage

As we mentioned, the teams favored to fight for that coveted VCT EMEA League berth for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, SAW and Apeks, both secured their third Group Stage victory. As a result, they secured their place in the tournament’s playoffs, which will begin on July 13, 2023.

SAW kicked off the day’s play against Dsyre, the Italian team that offered more resistance than expected, but the Portuguese managed to win 2-1.

The series began in Ascent, where SAW deployed all their available potential and took a crushing 13-4 victory. Then, on the second map, Split, Dsyre woke up and put up a spectacular fight to even the series 1-1 with an excellent 13-11 victory. Finally, the Portuguese squad pulled out all the stops to win Lotus by 13-5.

On the other hand, Apeks took care of crushing Gentle Mates, the French squad that also came into this matchday with great confidence after accumulating three wins in their three games played. Apeks, however, brought out their favorite’s tag to take the victory with a resounding 2-0 win.

The first map, Haven, was full of excitement and action from start to finish. However, Apeks managed to take the victory with a score of 13-11. Then, on the second map, Ascent, everything seemed to indicate that we would also have a balanced match. However, thanks to a spectacular level of play by Georgio “Keiko” Sanassy, Apeks took the victory by 13-9.

Digital Athletics and FOKUS win to make up for their records

While it is true that DA and FOKUS got excellent 2-1 wins against CGN Esports and Team Falcons, respectively, this only serves to make up their records. We say this because the chances of qualifying for the playoffs in this tournament are practically impossible.

On the part of FOKUS, they no longer have options to advance in this tournament, as they have a 1-2 record, and it is not enough for them to qualify even if they win their last game of the Group Stage. Meanwhile, Digital Athletics has to win their next game by a large margin and hope that SAW crushes Acend to have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
