Santorini, the lost CS:GO map returns to CS2

Recently information has been leaked indicating that for CS2 comes the lost map of CS:GO, we are talking about “Santorini.” Yesterday the first images of the enhanced version of the Santorini map were revealed.

Shaun “FMPONE” Snelling has been in charge of informing the public about the map. For the Santorini map, the game developers have taken full advantage of the lighting modifications for CS2. In addition, they have taken advantage of Source 2’s new physics-based rendering system.

Santorini, one of the most beloved maps by the CS:GO player community, has received improvements to the elements that made it a favorite map for many.

The team formed by FMPONE, Rick “Rf” Forge, Dimitri “Dimsane” Alexis, and Brian “Hordeau” Pujals was in charge of giving the CS:GO community the Santorini map. This map formally came to the game in February 2016 through Operation Wildfire.

That the game developers included the new map in the game was undoubtedly a great success; players reacted very well to Santorini. In addition, the map received much positive feedback at the time, thanks to the novel and energetic use of verticality.

However, although many players loved this map, it never made it to a major tournament. It was only seen in an exhibition match a month after its inclusion in the game.

All the players who loved the map hoped the developers would keep it over time in CS:GO. But, unfortunately, Santorini was removed from the game once Operation Wildfire ended in October of that same year.

Over the years, the map has kept fans, so in 2017, FACEIT added Santorini to its map pool. However, it was only for a short time that the community could enjoy the map again.

Santorini returns to CS2

Thanks to FMPONE, the entire player community has learned that Santorini is coming to CS2. In addition, FMPONE has informed all its followers that the map will be improved with Source 2 tools. However, it is not yet published. On the other hand, the map will likely arrive in the new version of the game this year.

On the other hand, the map developer has commented on some details of how the CS:GO maps for CS2 will be updated. These updates, over time, depending on the category in which the map has been classified.

At the moment, it is not known if all the CS:GO maps will arrive in CS2; however, what is certain is that the entire community of players will be able to enjoy the beloved Greek Island map again. In addition, it will be able to be enjoyed from the moment the full version of the game is released.
