A tragic event for KOI at the VALORANT LOCK IN. After losing their first match against NRG, the purple team have to leave Brazil. The format has taken its toll, and this 2-0 loss will be the only one for the marquees in the competition.
The loss spells the end for KOI in their debut, and we won’t hear more from them until VCT: EMEA. The Spanish team could not defeat NRG and lost to the North American team, including former OpTic Gaming members.
There have already been negative news about one of the Spanish representatives since the VALORANT LOCK IN action started. The debut of the Marqueses, which began with a celebration in style, ended with a 2-0 defeat. Spectators could watch the match that kicked off KOI and the VALORANT tournament, but unfortunately, the debut was a failure; the team could do very little against this great rival.
KOI is eliminated VALORANT LOCK IN by NRG
KOI’s debut and return home, the tents are out of the VALORANT LOCK IN very prematurely. Surprisingly, the team was eliminated on the first day of the event, but that was the event’s format.
KOI was the first victim of the direct elimination of VALORANT LOCK IN, which does not give second chances. As a result, the Spanish team’s debut was not ideal, and they returned home feeling defeated.

With a solid 2-0 record going into the best-of-three match, NRG clearly outplayed the KOI team. After winning the Icebox 13-11 and the Haven, the North American team took a quick lead in the series at 13-9.
NRG had an outstanding turnout from their new acquisitions, as well as their OpTic Gaming core. Sam “s0m” Oh and Austin “crashies” Roberts were the key and most influential players of the match for NRG, which did not suffer anything in the series since the comeback at the Icebox.
KOI’s lack of teamwork was evident. Russian Nikita “trexx” Cherednichenko was the standout player for the purple squad and responsible for some of KOI’s best moments.
KOI’s comment after the defeat
On its official Twitter account, the team posted:
“We gave a good level, but it was not enough. We are going home looking forward to the season. It’s going to be a brutal year, trust us.”

Bidding a premature farewell to Brazil, KOI must now focus on the normal VCT phase in EMEA. In particular, the Spanish team must work hard to develop its identity. In contrast, NRG is still competing in VCT: LOCK IN and is considered a potential opponent if Giants is victorious in its first game.
