Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent: Arcane 2 is not coming in 2023

Arcane Season 2 won’t be available in 2023, but production of the show is well underway, according to Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent in an interview posted to Bilibili.

The CEO of Riot Games, Nicolo Laurent, recently spoke with LPL broadcaster Guan Ze Yuan about the beloved series and claimed that the company is feeling overwhelmed by the Arcane’s success. When questioned about a release date, the head of Riot Games stated that Arcane season 2 is still in production and won’t be released in 2023.

As the team’s priority is quality and they don’t want to rush, Laurent, who recently watched the third episode of Season 2, claimed that while the second season is being worked on, it is still not quite finished., he said. Arcane Season 2’s development may have been a little behind schedule because the team behind the high-rated series was unsure of how the first season would do.

Laurent also mentioned that they could have begun production much sooner if they had realized the show would be so successful. Although Laurent said it wouldn’t be arriving this year, he didn’t say when it was anticipated to be released, so that remains a mystery. It is appropriate and even ideal for the team to concentrate on the quality rather than hastily releasing additional episodes given that the first season has set the standard high and won accolades from both professional critics and general audiences.

Fans have to wait for at least a year to see Vi and Powder again

The official League of Legends animated adaption, Arcane, follows the journey of sisters Vi and Powder across the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun. The first season included a huge cast of supporting cast, such as Heimerdinger, Ekko, and Caitlyn, who were all essential to the storyline. The first season of Arcane premiered on Netflix in 2021 and was an enormous hit that was well-received by the entire community.

The video game-adapted series made by French animation studio Fortiche Productions took home almost every award it was nominated for. Since then, a lot of fans—whether they are avid gamers or OTT viewers in general—have requested Riot to release the sequel. Immediately following the first season’s conclusion, a second season of Arcane was announced by Riot, but no exact dates or times had been set.

Along with Warwick’s trademark scream and champion song, the Season 2 teaser featured pre-recorded dialogue from Caitlyn, Vi, and Jinx. This demonstrated that plans, sound effects, and speech for the second season of the game were already prepared by Riot Games and Fortiche. Now with this little but important update from Nicolo Laurent, we can officially affirm that fans will have to wait at least a year to watch Arcane season 2.
