There is no doubt that fans of Fnatic and the LEC, in general, are still shocked by what happened to the popular Fnatic organization in Winter Split 2023. Let’s remember that Fnatic was left out of the LEC playoffs for the first time in its history, as they finished the regular season with a terrible 2-7 record in ninth place in the table.

Before the start of the LEC Winter Split 2023, there were a lot of expectations around what this new Fnatic squad commanded by legend Martin “Rekkles” Larsson would do. The team, the fans, and the other participants were sure this new team would fight for the LEC championship. But it was quite the opposite, and now, Rekkles has come clean with his fans and explained what happened.

Rekkles comes clean and explains what’s going on with Fnatic

After the disappointing performance of Fnatic in the LEC Winter Split 2023, the 26-year-old legend Martin “Rekkles” Larsson comes clean. He explains everything that has happened with Fnatic at the beginning of the year.

The Swedish player first shared that everything started in a highly complex way regarding the team, and they never took the right direction. This is mentioned by Rekkles, emphasizing that Fnatic was one of the last teams that started training. Remember that other LEC teams were already practicing and tuning up since December 2022, while Fnatic began in January. Therefore, the team had only two weeks to train before the Winter Split started.

Rekkles said:

“It was a very tricky thing; we were losing to everyone. There was no team we beat clearly; whenever we managed to win, it seemed more luck than anything else.”

Rekkles stated in his video that the lack of time and, consequently, the lack of improvement in the game affected the team in the first two weeks. Unfortunately, this got worse as the rounds went on, and the players’ lack of confidence caused some illogical failures in Summoner’s Rift.

Anxiety affected the players

As the Split progressed, a sense of anxiety could engulf the players. Rekkles noted that players began to feel the weight of the Fnatic jersey. As an organization that was so popular and had always been in the playoffs, now, for the first time in its history, it could happen. This led players to make decisions and moves they would not usually make.

At this point, he stopped to mention Ivan “Razork” Martin. Saying that the 22-year-old started making individual plays that he would never make because of his anxiety and pressure.

Rekkles finished with:

“Our level of play was pretty low individually, so we needed the rest of our pieces to do well. We needed to improve as a team, get things right on the map, and not stay stuck in the same place for an entire Split.”

Now we must wait for what the future holds for this Fnatic lineup, as according to rumors, the organization plans to make radical changes for the LEC Spring Split starting in a few weeks.
