Every now and then, a team shows up out of nowhere and stuns the world. In Dota 2, such events have been numerous but they’ve always been associated with The International. Examples include Alliance, Wings Gaming, Digital Chaos, OG, Team Spirit, and so on.

Now, Quest Esports seem to be determined to establish themselves as one of the strongest teams not just in Western Europe, where they finished Tour 3 in 3rd place, but the world as well.

At the ongoing Bali Major, Quest are currently ranked 1st in group B, which is considered much tougher than group A. This team seems to be performing miracles and only two opponents, Gaimin Gladiators and 9Pandas, have managed to draw against them. Their current record is 5 W – 2 D – 0 L.

Quest Esports’ prowess and results

Much of Quest Esports’ prowess comes from the team’s most recent signing. Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf was loaned from Nigma Galaxy and he clearly is one of the most talented players of his generation. What’s surprising is that he has a huge impact on every game while being a mere offlaner.

Usually, players achieve spectacular results from the position 1 or position 2 role. But he’s an exception. At the Bali Major, he’s played everything from Timbersaw to Broodmother. And in some cases, he ended up accumulating more networth than one of the other two cores, who are supposed to become much stronger.

Quest Esports have encountered seven teams so far at the Bali Major:

  • Bleed Esports: 2-0
  • Gaimin Gladiators: 1-1
  • Azure Ray: 2-0
  • Nouns: 2-0
  • Evil Geniuses: 2-0
  • BetBoom Team: 2-0
  • 9Pandas: 1-1

The draws against Gladiators and 9Pandas were very impressive, while the victories against Bleed, Azure, nouns, and EG were fun to watch. But the most important victory so far was the one against BetBoom. That’s because this team finished 2nd at the recent DreamLeague S20 and nearly defeated Gladiators in the Grand Final (2-3).

At the Bali Major, they haven’t played as well, but they’re still a top-four team in group B, which is a clear indication that Quest didn’t win against a weak opponent. They won against one of the best teams in the tournament.

It remains to be seen what Quest can do in the playoffs. They will 100% start in the upper bracket, and someone will be unlucky enough to play against them.
