Riot Games, known for the widely loved League of Legends, is cooking up a fresh delight for gamers – Project L. This upcoming 2D brawl promises to transport League of Legends champions into an entirely different battleground, stirring up excitement among fans.

Curious about the Project L release date? We’ve got you covered. Discover all the details right here.

Project L Release Date

Every gamer out there is eagerly anticipating the arrival of Project L. Riot Games has been pretty secretive about the official launch date, but we can still piece together some hints from their development progress.

Riot recently gave us a sneak peek into their work through development videos and a playable gameplay demo featured at EVO 2023. Judging by these glimpses, it’s a safe bet that Project L might grace our screens before the summer of 2025.

It’s interesting to recall Riot’s senior director, Tom Cannon, stating back in 2021 that the game wouldn’t be ready for 2021 or 2022. However, since then, the development team has been hard at work, perfecting core mechanics, crafting champions, enhancing social features, and fine-tuning the competitive gameplay aspects.

But there’s another twist in this tale – the incredible success of Arcane, the Netflix anime series inspired by League of Legends. With Arcane Season 2 expected to make its debut in Q4 2024, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Riot Games decided to launch Project L during this period, capitalizing on the soaring interest in the League of Legends universe. So, while the official release date remains a mystery, the anticipation for Project L continues to build among gamers worldwide.

Project L Trailers

As we eagerly anticipate the official release date, Riot Games has kindly offered us a sneak peek at what Project L has in store through trailers and gameplay videos. While an official trailer is yet to surface, Riot’s initial Project L development video provides an engaging glimpse into the game. Taking place in the Runeterra universe, familiar League of Legends champions engage in intense battles, all presented in a delightful 2D art style.

At EVO 2023, a 13-minute gameplay showcase delved even deeper into the world of Project L. Gamers had the opportunity to take command of champions such as Ahri, Yasuo, Darius, and Ekko in thrilling 2v2 team-based battles.

Project L pledges an accessible learning curve and a challenging mastery journey. This ensures that both newcomers and experienced fighting game enthusiasts can revel in its gameplay without the need for extensive combo memorization.

Project L Gameplay Mechanics

Project L introduces a straightforward yet captivating 2D fighting game experience. Champions wield a set of attack abilities, seamlessly adapting to their position, be it on the ground or in mid-air.

Defensive tactics are equally diverse, offering players counterattacks and blocking skills for a well-rounded combat feel. What sets Project L apart is its compelling 2v2 team-based gameplay, injecting dynamism and strategic flair.

The game’s defining feature is the ‘assist-based fighter’ system, where gamers assemble a duo of champions working in tandem. There’s a ‘Point’ champion and an ‘Assist’ character, readily switchable through a versatile ‘tag’ mechanism.

Riot Games introduces three distinct tag actions: Assist Actions, Handshake Tag, and Dynamic Save. This innovative system encourages players to delve into strategic team composition, elevating the game’s complexity and offering an exhilarating combat experience.

Project L Champion Roster

Project L brings joy to gamers as they eagerly await the chance to engage with their beloved League of Legends champions.

Riot Games has already unveiled a sneak peek at some iconic characters through early gameplay clips, including fan favorites such as Jinx, Ekko, Darius, Ahri, Katarina, Illaoi, and Yasuo. Yet, the excitement continues to build as more legendary champions are anticipated to enter the battleground.

These champions have undergone a seamless transformation to adapt to the fighting game mechanics, all while preserving the core essence of their League of Legends abilities. Jinx brings her formidable Pow-Pow minigun into the arena, Ekko commands time itself with his ‘Chronostrike,’ and Illaoi’s menacing tentacle attacks remain as impressive as ever.
