The Golden Guardians are no longer on social media, and their website has been taken down following their exit from the LCS last month.

The NBA’s Golden State Warriors own and run esports team Golden Guardians has formally shut down all activities and erased its social media presence.  Additionally, the team’s LinkedIn profile has been left unclaimed, and the organization’s merchandise website has been disabled. A goodbye message seems to have been added to the team’s official website, describing the departure from League of Legends.

Currently, the only traces of Golden Guardians on the internet are their YouTube channel and Discord server. However, a sizable chunk of the Golden Guardian’s past has been unexpectedly removed from the internet.

Golden Guardians disappear from the internet

Over the years, the Golden Guardians, who began with only one LCS team in November 2017, have had numerous highs and lows. Early on, the squad was mired in controversy when Golden State Warriors coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoon-seop was fired in February 2018 for disparaging a female Riot Games esports employee disrespectfully.

Several esports rosters were assembled by the North American organization over the years, including Apex Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Super Smash Bros, and World of Warcraft. However, most of these rosters were unable to cope with the challenges and only a few teams remain with the organization. Golden Guardians’ LCS roster, on the other hand, withstand every challenge they faced since 2017, though their performance remained average.

GG was considered a low-tier team as they consistently found themself at the bottom of the points table every season. It was the 2023 season, however, that saw the team rise from a sixth-place finish in the LCS 2023 Spring Split regular season to a second-place finish in the Playoffs. With this comeback, the team managed to secure a spot at the 2023 Mid-Season Invitation for the first time in the organization’s history.

The team performed brilliantly during the play-in stage and even made it to the playoffs, where they were eventually eliminated by their regional rivals Cloud9. The team kept the momentum going and repeated the success during the LCS 2023 Summer,  where they finished fourth during the playoffs and earned a place in the 2023 Worlds Qualifying Series.

Unfortunately, their journey ended there as they fell short of securing a spot at Worlds 2023, losing to the LEC’s Team BDS. Their match against BDS turned out to be their last as the organization departed the LCS following Riot Games’ decision to transition the league from a 10 teams to eight teams.
