On day 1 of PGL Major Copenhagen’s playoffs, Team Spirit will play against FaZe Clan for a spot in the semifinals.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s not hard to guess who will win. But given that we’re at a CS2 Major, anything could happen.

The match will not take place in an isolated environment where the players don’t need to think about anything else apart from the game itself. It will take place in a large arena, in front of thousands of screaming fans.

In this kind of environment, donk and even sh1ro might succumb to pressure, while karrigan could easily find a way to win.

Team Spirit’s Chances

Team Spirit currently have two of the world’s best players: donk and sh1ro. Both of them are phenomenal and know how to help each other in matches.

At their last two CS2 tournaments, Spirit won despite the strong opposition. One of them was IEM Katowice while the other was BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown.

This team won 16 of their last 17 matches. MOUZ managed to defeat them in the European qualifiers for this tournament. But other than that, it was smooth sailing for donk and his crew.

In the Elimination Stage of the Copenhagen Major, Spirit played against Cloud9, Imperial Esports, and Natus Vincere. Two of these teams ended up qualifying for the playoffs. They won against all three of them.

FaZe Clan’s Chances

FaZe Clan started the tournament in the second stage and had a poor start against HEROIC followed by an easy victory against FURIA Esports. In their third match, they lost again, this time to Eternal Fire. FaZe ended up qualifying for the playoffs after their victories against Imperial and Complexity.

For karrigan, a victory against Spirit would be a monumental success. The two teams already met each other in the Grand Final of IEM Katowice less than two months ago. Spirit won 3 – 0 but struggled on the first two maps.

The scores were 13 – 9 on Nuke, 13 – 11 on Mirage, and 13 – 3 on Overpass. With a bit more luck, FaZe could get a better result this time.

The team’s morale is probably really good. In 2022 and 2023, FaZe had two of the best seasons in the org’s history. Now, in 2024, they already started with a Grand Final at a prestigious S-tier tournament. They probably want to get more, but it will be difficult against this Spirit lineup.
