In last fall’s update, Overwatch 2 brought a new game mode, a new hero, Kiriko, and different character tweaks. But the biggest change Blizzard made was undoubtedly the removal of tanks.

With the update, there is only one tank to protect your team from constant pushback. And with several weeks already active in this update, many players still have difficulty adjusting to the change.

Players are upset about the change in Overwatch 2.

In a thread on Reddit, many players expressed dissatisfaction with the changes. Players claim that they were removed from their tank role due to the changes in Overwatch 2.

Just saw This. I Think it Perfectly Encapsulates how I Feel When I Play Tank in Overwatch 2. The Tank Role Needs Help, as Overwatch WAS NOT Built Around 5v5. from Overwatch

Players complain of having less “freedom and synergy” since this role was removed from the game. Now, players claim that they are forced to control many things simultaneously.

If you are a casual Overwatch player, you should know that when tanks make a mistake, it is effortless to eliminate them in battles. Unfortunately, this absence hurts your allies, as they will no longer have a burly character to maintain a zone.

The main comment in the thread on Reddit reads:

“Personally, I feel like there is too much pressure on me to do well and not make mistakes, which is unrealistic as a semi-competitive player. I think I’ve mastered the cycles and rhythm of 5-on-5 and the meta, but I’m not having fun or liking it anymore.”

What’s going on with the meta change in Overwatch 2?

This meta-change has made games much faster. Since teams can’t defend in the same way without tanks that can control zones. There is no doubt that this has its advantages and disadvantages.

The shields of tanks cannot withstand enemy fire for a long time, and when they are defeated, the enemy team focuses more on them since, being the most corpulent of the team, they are easier to hit.

On the other hand, this makes the healing of Supports much more important for tanks. But, if the tank is being chased by the whole enemy team, even with two Supports helping, it will not be possible to survive in the game.

Players change their roles in the game

Now, players have confessed to having changed their role in Overwatch 2. Some DPS have started playing as tanks due to the change in play style that added dynamism to the role. In addition, the fact that they can be aggressive with Doomfist or Roadhog and focus on pushing with their teammates rather than defending has appealed to other players.

A clear example of the change in play style is Ramattra, as his shield is placed in a fixed position. This allows him to be more mobile, combined with his Nemesis, which increases his movement speed.

This discussion also demonstrates that the tank role is still in a learning phase for players and changes rapidly depending on other factors. Such as balance adjustments and new releases.
