Esports sensation Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas retires from competitive gaming after an illustrious career in CS:GO and Valorant.

In a bittersweet moment for the esports community, Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas, a name synonymous with excellence in both Counter-Strike and Valorant, has officially announced his retirement from competitive play. A journey that began in 2012 with a humble start in the CS:GO scene has culminated in a legacy that extends far beyond the scoreboard.

Early years in CS:GO

Mixwell’s early days in the competitive gaming realm were marked by his remarkable AWP skills and a relentless dedication to improvement. As a CS:GO prodigy, he quickly climbed the ranks, representing prestigious organizations and leaving his mark on the scene. From ELEAGUE Season 2 triumphs to strong showings at IEM Sydney and ESL Pro League, Mixwell’s presence was always felt. However, the turning point in his career arrived in 2020 when Mixwell, like many of his CS:GO peers, made the transition to Valorant.

Transition to Valorant

Joining G2 Esports, he spearheaded the team’s ascent in the emerging EMEA scene. Together with his squad, they dominated tournaments in 2020 and remained competitive throughout 2021, showcasing their prowess on the international stage.

Mixwell’s first international appearance at Masters: Berlin saw G2 Esports secure a top-four finish, further cementing his status as a force to be reckoned with in Valorant. Despite missing out on Champions 2021, he made a triumphant return in 2022, leading EMEA as the top seed at Masters: Reykjavik and securing another top-six finish.

In a surprising turn of events, Mixwell joined Team Heretics in preparation for the 2023 season, aiming to conquer the evolving landscape of Valorant esports. However, their journey was fraught with challenges, as they struggled to find their footing in the highly competitive EMEA League. A disappointing last-place finish at the VCT LOCK//IN event set the tone for their 2023 season, culminating in their exit from the EMEA LCQ.

Mixwell’s retirement announcement came via a heartfelt Twitch stream, where he shared his sentiments about closing this chapter of his life. Despite stepping away from competitive play, his journey with Team Heretics continues as he takes on the role of Content Creator.

A Legacy Beyond the Server

Mixwell’s retirement leaves a void in the competitive Valorant scene, but his legacy is more than just trophies and statistics. He will be remembered as one of the original European Valorant stars who successfully transitioned from CS:GO, earning the admiration of fans worldwide.

His impact extends beyond the server, earning respect from rival teams like Giants Gaming and heartfelt messages of support from his former organization, G2, and the OpTic Gaming Green Wall community. As the esports world bids farewell to Mixwell’s competitive prowess, it’s clear that his legacy will endure as a testament to skill, dedication, and the enduring spirit of a true esports legend.
