After a disappointing last-place finish in the group stage of the Valorant Champions Tours NA Stage 2, Sentinels managed to qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier ahead of the season-concluding Champions 2022 event. Ghost Gaming’s elimination from the Stage 2 playoffs was what propelled Sentinel’s entry into the LCQ.

Sentinels struggled to perform well in the VCT Stage 2, finishing last in the group stage, and with no chance of advancing to the next round. However, they have an opportunity to redeem themselves after Ghost Gaming’s loss at the event which was their last chance to gain enough points to secure a spot in the LCQ.

Ghost Gaming eliminated

Only the top two teams in North American rankings qualify for Valorant Champions, and the remaining teams have to make their way to the tournament through LCQ. In order to qualify for the LCQ event, Sentinels needed to obtain enough circuit points to finish in the top ten, which they did thanks to Ghost Gaming’s exit from the playoffs.

After getting eliminated from the tournament in the first round of the playoffs by NRG, Ghost Gaming ended with only 35 circuit points, as they did not gain any in VCT Stage 1. Sentinels, on the other hand, sit at 45 points after making it to the playoffs in Stage 1 and after their group stage appearance in Stage 2. Ghost Gaming’s elimination from the event resulted in Sentinels taking the tenth position in the rankings and therefore qualifying for the LCQ event.

Can Sentinels make a comeback?

Sentinels’ performance in 2021 was remarkable, as the young roster didn’t miss a single Masters event during the year. They won the VCT Masters 1 competition, establishing themselves as one of the top professional Valorant teams.

The team’s journey, however, seemed to be disappointing in 2022, as the team was eliminated early from the VCT Stage 1 Playoffs and from there, it started getting even worse. Stage 2 began with Eric “Kanpeki” Xu replacing Jared “zombs” Gitlin, but instead of getting better, things went downhill for the team.

They lost to every team they faced in the group stage, including OpTic Gaming, FaZe Clan, Evil Geniuses, Luminosity Gaming, and Cloud9. The dreadful run of losses resulted in an undesirable 0-5 record and a last-place finish. However, Sentinels now got another chance to make it onto VCT’s last international event of the year, and it was NRG who helped them narrowly avoid their worst nightmare. Sentinels fans will be thrilled to see the squad back in action, though the details about the Last Chance Qualifier are yet to be revealed.

NRG, on the other hand, has already won two knockout series in a row after falling behind 1-3 in the group round. To finish their remarkable run to Masters Copenhagen, they’ll need to win three more games in a row.
