The Challengers Stage of IEM Rio Major is over and OG have been eliminated in their final match against Team Vitality. In an interview for Pley.gg prior to this match, Abdulkhalik “degster” Gasanov spoke about the technical issues his team had been facing.

Degster said that ESL messed up badly at this tournament, and that their Major was below expectations from a technical point of view. Apparently, at least one player on OG’s side had their game crash in a key round and nothing could be done about it.

The team lost important rounds this way, which eventually resulted in them losing important matches. Ultimately, OG failed to qualify for the Legends Stage, which is likely going to lead to even more anger in relation to ESL.

OG’s results at IEM Rio Major

OG started the Major win an easy victory against Grayhound Gaming. Degster played really well in this match and finished with a K-D score of 25-10, by far the best on the server.

In their second match of the tournament, OG encountered Fnatic and were regarded as the favorites. But despite degster’s best efforts and excellent stats, his team ended up losing the battle. The final score was 16-13. On Fnatic’s side, Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson did a great job and had 22 kills.

The third match was another tragedy for OG, who lost in overtime against FURIA Esports. For the third consecutive time, degster was by far the best member of his team. At times, it felt as though he was playing alone. Overall, his teammates did reasonably well, but they got outsmarted by FURIA’s roster a bit too often.

Everyone on FURIA had a positive K-D score. Meanwhile, only degster had a positive score on OG.

The fourth match, against IHC confirmed that degster is without a doubt OG’s superstar. He finished the match with 55 kills, while the second-best member of his team, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan, had only 39.

The scores were very close: 16-11 on Inferno and 16-14 on Ancient. Given that IHC are not at all a strong team, this result convinced a lot of fans that OG had no hope in their final match against Vitality. And that fear was confirmed last night.

Vitality started the match with a tough victory on Vertigo: 19-17. Then came OG’s turn to win a map, on Inferno: 6-16. But on Dust II, Vitality proved to be the stronger team and won with ease: 16-8.

Unlike in previous matches, degster was no longer the MVP and got neutralized very well by the French side.
