A short while ago, the first Dota Pro Circuit Major of 2023 looked like it was headed for cancellation after the country where it was supposed to be held, Peru, went up in flames. It seems that the protests won’t stop Valve from giving South American Dota 2 fans what they’ve wanted for a long time.

South America was the weakest region in Dota 2 when Valve first recognized the region as one of the six major ones. Its results were terrible at every international tournament. But in recent years, SA Dota looked even stronger than NA and SEA Dota. Which is remarkable.

A bit of context

As a result of the region’s development, great esports organizations like Evil Geniuses and Alliance decided to give it a shot and start a Dota 2 team there. Subsequently, Valve saw this as a great opportunity to advertise Dota 2 in the region and offered South Americans their first Major, which will be held in Lima, Peru.

The tournament is scheduled to take place between February 22 – March 5. The $500.000 prize pool, the two week duration, and the fact that the best 18 teams in the world will attend the event give this Dota 2 competition a lot of prestige.

But with so much going on in the world, people were worried that Valve had made a bad decision when it chose this location.

Good news

Over the last week or so, some positive news started to come out, showing that the Lima Major would in fact take place and that people were very interested in watching it live. The arena that 4D Esports and Epulze will rent for the event has a capacity of 15.000 seats. But in total, more than 20.000 people tried to buy tickets.

This means that the players will really get to enjoy themselves like in the good old days, when they were constantly offered a full arena to entertain. Much of the motivation to be the best comes from the thought that you will perform in front of a lot of people who will cheer for you.

For a top player, the idea of disappointing everyone who believes in you is so terrifying that it will actually motivate the person to train with a lot of intensity. If everything goes according to plan, the Lima Major should be an excellent Dota 2 event worth watching.
