New Team Fortress 2 update didn’t go as expected

On June 22, Valve released a new update for Team Fortress 2 as a response to the community’s demand to fix the game. However, the update failed to comply with the expectations of Team Fortress 2 players who expected more radical changes to the game.

At the end of May 2022, many TF2 fans and content creators started promoting the hashtag #savetf2 in order to attract the attention of the game’s developers. The game had multiple major problems that needed to be fixed.

The issues with the game

Team Fortress 2 is currently an almost unplayable game because each server is fully invaded with bots who kick real players, spam in text and voice chat and kill others with a non-human accuracy. This is a result of the online leakage of the game’s source code back in 2020, which has caused the bot infestation.

However, the game’s loyal community decided to try to save the title and deliver the problems to the developers. Via an abandoned Team Fortress 2 Twitter account, Valve responded that they heard the fans and are working on the aforementioned issues.

However, the update that followed didn’t fulfil the desires of the players. While it fixed some of the long-term issues, exploits and lags, there was no direct fix for the bots. The developers only updated the voting system, which now allows running kick voting for both teams at the same time, which raises the chances of kicking real people instead of bots.

Hopes for major summer update

Despite an attempt to improve things with its latest update, Valve still didn’t address the issue directly and hasn’t provided a roadmap for game-fixing. And so, a question of whether the developer will continue to ignore the situation arises. Instead of small fixes, TF2 needs a major update that would help bring the game back to its playable state.

Some TF2 community members say that a small update after only a month since the #savetf2 initiative emerged leads to a thought that probably they managed to be heard by Valve. However, the game remains unplayable after the update, and only time will show whether the developer fixes the game and turns it back to a normal state or continues its ignoring marathon.

Meanwhile, the Team Fortress 2 community is full of hopes for the upcoming summer update, as there is a chance that it might fix the game and bring a lot of new cosmetic items.
