The first international League of Legends event of the 2023 season, the MSI, is underway. After the first day of competition in the Play-In Phase, we have that G2 Esports and PSG Talon demonstrated an excellent level of play and advanced to Round 2 of the Upper Bracket.

On the other hand, LOUD and DetonatioN FocusMe will have to play for their lives in the Lower Bracket to advance to the Bracket Stage of the tournament.

G2 Esports starts MSI on the right foot by beating LOUD

The LEC Winter Split champions returned to the stages of the highest competitive level of League of Legends, and they did it on the right foot. While it is true that the Samurai did not look very good in their last official match against MAD Lions, the team was able to give a great blow on the table to beat LOUD 2-0. Thanks to this, the team advances to the second round of the Upper Bracket of the MSI 2023 Play-In Phase.

Rasmus “Caps” Winther arrived in London at his highest competitive level and took care of annihilating the Brazilians with an exceptional Nautilus. As a result, G2 completely took over the Summoner’s Rift Mid Lane in this match against LOUD. However, Nautilus was not the only champion to wreak havoc on the Brazilians, as Martin “Yike” Sundelin, with Nidalee, had an exemplary performance.

LOUD wanted, at times, to give a big surprise on the first map. However, G2 worked hand in hand with Caps and Yike to prevent it. Finally, the Samurai avoided an aggressive offensive from the Brazilians to win the first map. Then, in the second map, G2 already had the measure of LOUD and managed to crush them to seal the victory.

There is no doubt that within this spectacular victory by G2, we must highlight, in addition to the Caps, the international debut of Yike. The Swedish/Peruvian jungler got a KDA of 18/2/22 in the whole series.

PSG Talon crushed DetonatioN FocusMe 2-0

The PCS champions beat DetonatioN FocusMe 2-0 to score their first MSI 2023 victory and advance to Round 2 of the Upper Bracket in this Play-In phase. Thanks to this new Double Elimination format in the MSI, teams have a better chance to stay in the tournament and qualify for the next phases.

PSG Talon completely dominated this match against DetonatioN FocusMe and proved that their dominance in the PCS is for great things. The team’s jungler, Yu “JunJia” Chun-Chia, led the team to victory.

The first match was a somewhat quiet victory for PSG Talon, as JunJia managed to completely block Moon “Steal” Geon-yeong, DFM’s Jungler. Then, in the second match, PSG Talon encountered much more resistance from the Japanese team, but again they managed to pull off a big upset to take the win in 50:12 minutes and +3.1K gold.
