Domination for four seasons in a row? Not a big deal for MOUZ NXT. The team again secured the first place in WePlay Academy League through a winning streak in the lower bracket of the playoffs. Let’s dive into the whole recap of the event.

The fourth season of WePlay Academy League took place from May 24 to June 26. The CS:GO event featured 13 young squads from such worldwide known organizations as Astralis, BIG, Natus Vincere, FURIA and others that were invited to compete for their share of the $100,000 total prize pool.

Group Stage and Play-in recap

During the group stage, all eyes were on BIG Academy and MOUZ NXT. The former was the runner-up of the previous season, while the latter won all of the league’s previous editions.

BIG went into the Season 4 with a slightly changed roster — Karim “Krimbo” Moussa was promoted to the main roster while Nils “k1to” Gruhne was relegated from main to the Academy roster. The community had high hopes for the squad as they improve with every season. BIG Academy finished Group B in first place with a 9-1 streak.

MOUZ NXT entered as the winner of three consecutive WePlay Academy League titles. Despite the fact that they’ve promoted their star player Jon “JDC” de Castro to the main roster, the expectations still remained very high for the German organization. Accordingly, MOUZ NXT conquered Group A with a 10-2 streak and became one of the main contenders for the championship title. As a result of winning their respective groups, MOUZ NXT and BIG Academy advanced straight to the playoff stage.

Among the newcomer squads in the league, 00 Prospects of Norway origin managed to impress fans during the group stage as they finished third in their group and advanced to the play-in stage. The play-in stage resulted in two teams securing their spots in the playoff stage — FNATIC Rising and FURIA Academy.

MOUZ NXT continue their win streak

The first match of the playoff stage completely surprised the community as MOUZ NXT, the favorites of the competition, lost to FURIA Academy with a 0-2 score and fell into the lower bracket. Meanwhile, BIG Academy got into the Grand Final with no defeat.

MOUZ NXT managed to recover from their initial playoff loss and followed with victories against Fnatic Rising and FURIA Academy to meet BIG Academy in the finale.

The Grand Final match finished with a 2-0 score and as a result, MOUZ NXT became the fourth-time champions of the WePlay Academy League, remaining the only champions of the league despite the recent roster changes.

MOUZ fans are now waiting to find out whether the org’s management decides to promote another team member to the main squad or if they continue to conquer the amateur CS:GO scene in this composition.
