Motivate.Trust Gets Shocking Title Win at BTS Pro Series Season 3 SEA

BTS Pro Series Season 3 took place in 3 regions: Americas, Europe/CIS, and Southeast Asia. The European competition is not over yet. In the Americas, Quincy Crew won in an unsurprising fashion. But the SEA event ended with a totally unexpected result. A little-known team by the name of Motivate.Trust managed to finish ahead of TNC Predator, BOOM Esports, and Among Us to claim the title.

Who Is Motivate.Trust Gaming

This is a team from Thailand with a very little history behind it. Or maybe it has a lot of it, but it’s not very well-known by people outside of Thailand. What we do know, however, is that Motivate.Trust had only won one significant tournament prior to BTS Pro Series Season 3 SEA. And that tournament was a local one: ESL Thailand Championship 2020 Season 1.

With this track record, a 7^th – 8^th place at ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia, and a roster full of unknown players, Motivate.Trust entered this competition with zero chances of winning the title. And yet they somehow managed to beat in direct confrontations not only Among Us, which had totally destroyed almost everyone up until that point, but also BOOM Esports.

Motivate.Trust’s Run at This Event

Motivate.Trust only lost one match in the Group Stage. That the team that beat them was Among Us. Apart from that failure, they won 4 times and drew 4 times. In particular, they defeated TNC Predator and drew against BOOM Esports. In the end, they finished 4^th and had the opportunity to start the Playoffs Stage in the Upper Bracket. Even though it was somewhat encouraging, this result was still far from being a strong indicator that Motivate.Trust would have a shot at the title. In fact, their first match of the Playoffs clearly showed that other teams were stronger. Among Us defeated them with a score of 2 – 1 and sent them to the Lower Bracket.

In the Lower Bracket, Motivate.Trust won two matches, against Neon Esports and NEW Esports, before meeting Among Us again in the Final. This time, they managed to find a way to win and they advanced to the Grand Final. And in this last match of the tournament, played against a much stronger team, Motivate.Trust won a Bo5 without losing a single game. To me, that’s absolutely insane. So a bunch of players that nobody who watches tier 1 and tier 2 Dota has ever heard of, managed to beat Abed’s stack (Among Us) and then flawlessly beat one of the strongest teams in SEA. What an absolute surprise!
