Monte and FaZe kick off Thunderpick World Championship 2023 in style

Another of the tournaments currently being played at the highest competitive level of CS2, the Thunderpick World Championship 2023, left us with some interesting matches on the first day. However, we must highlight the start of Monte and FaZe Clan, who got solid 2-0 victories in the opening matches against Wildcard Gaming and SAW, respectively.

Similarly, we must mention that there were two intense and evenly matched games in Group A, as Cloud9 got a 2-1 win against Fnatic. Meanwhile, Virtus.pro applied a reverse sweep against a NiP that had to play with Max “maxster” Jansson instead of Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin, as the team benched the latter.

Now, focusing on Group B, both Monte and FaZe Clan were far superior to their opponents. Moreover, they will face each other in the next few hours to fight for the playoff qualification.

Monte annihilate Wildcard Gaming by 2-0

The first match of Group B left us with an extraordinary victory of Monte by 2-0 against Wildcard Gaming. Likewise, it’s not just the fact of the 2-0 victory but that Monte prevented Wildcard Gaming from winning more than 8 rounds in total.

It all started in Overpass, Wildcard Gaming’s map pick, where the North American squad seems to have made a mistake when selecting this map. And the fact is that Monte, starting on the CT Side, managed to take a solid and extraordinary partial victory in the first half by 10-2. Finally, the Ukrainian squad won the first 3 rounds by switching sides to seal the victory with a resounding 13-2.

Then, in the second map, Anubis, things started differently, as Wildcard seemed to wake up and wanted to come back in the series since the first half ended with the score even at 6-6. However, at the change of sides, Monte deployed a spectacular offense that led them to win the first 7 rounds, thus securing the 13-6 victory.

FaZe Clan gets off on the right foot with a 2-0 win over SAW

FaZe Clan, the favorite to win this tournament, scored an excellent 2-0 (13-6 on both maps) victory over SAW to advance to the Winners Match of the Thunderpick WC 2023.

It all started in Anubis, SAW’s map pick, where FaZe’s offense had a spectacular start, as they won the first half by 8-4. Then, at the change of sides, SAW tried to wake up, but it was impossible, as FaZe won the remaining 5 rounds to take the victory by 13-6.

In the second map, Nuke, things were practically the same since starting on the T Side again; they managed to take the partial victory in the first half by 7-5. Finally, with a solid and impenetrable defense, FaZe sealed their victory by 13-6 for the second consecutive map to ratify their status as favorites in the tournament.
