Modern Warfare 2: Gunfight and new multiplayer map coming in future seasons

As we already know, season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is already underway. Since last February 15, we have been enjoying the new content this new season brought. However, Activision does not stop there, as they decided to reveal some previews of what season 3 of the game will bring.

As part of the notes for season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, Activision has confirmed that season 3 is already in development. In addition, they have shared some hints as to the content that will arrive, such as the return of Gunfight to the multiplayer mode. On the other hand, new maps, the return of Plunder to Warzone 2, and the Raked mode in BR were also announced.

Gunfight returns to Modern Warfare 2

As we mentioned in the Season 2 patch notes, fans can check, in addition to everything about this new update, some content that is coming in the mid-season update and Season 3.

Undoubtedly, one of the updates that have caused the most joy in the community is the return of Gunfight mode, which will come to Modern Warfare 2 in Season 3.

There are no set timelines for these additions. According to the developers, all of these improvements will be available in “Season 3 and beyond,” which implies that some of them could be released after the official season start date. It is safe to assume that Call of Duty Season 3 will be released in May, and hopefully, some of these new features will also be released. Call of Duty seasons usually lasts about three months.

What is Gunfight mode?

Gunfight mode was introduced in Call of Duty for the first time in Modern Warfare 2019. It is a 2v2 mode in which players only have 40 seconds to finish off the enemy team. If time runs out, each side has 10 seconds to capture the Overtime Flag to win the round.

As you might expect, this type of game is played on much smaller maps. In addition, different tournaments have been played in this game mode that has exclusive rewards. So there is no doubt that duos are very much looking forward to the arrival of this mode in MWII.

The addition of Gunfight to Modern Warfare 2’s game modes was discovered by leakers several months ago. However, it was speculated that this mode would be added in MW2 Season 2.

New multiplayer map

On the other hand, Modern Warfare 2 fans are also excited about the arrival of a new multiplayer map in the mid-season update. This map will be played in 6v6 mode, and in the patch images, you can see a preview of it. Similarly, below, we will show the image of the map.

According to Activision:

“Infinity Ward’s multiplayer team has decided to bring the map forward, as it is already testing well in the game and is tracking ahead of schedule.”

As we note, the teams will fight in a wintry environment enclosed in snow-filled Rocky Mountains while their battle takes place in pools and a spa. Unfortunately, however, we do not yet know the name of this new map.

Given that Season 2 has just started, it will be a while before we see these modes join MWII and Warzone 2.0. However, there is also a lot of new content in Season 2, such as the return of the Resurgence mode, the new ranked multiplayer mode, and much more.
