Blizzard Entertainment has taken over a medieval cathedral in France and decorated its walls and roof with Diablo-inspired artwork to raise anticipation for the release of Diablo IV, the next game in their popular gothic video game franchise.

Blizzard has completely transformed Chapelle des Jésuites, a 17th-century cathedral located in Cambrai, France, into a Cathedral of Diablo for its Diablo IV marketing campaign. The live-action Diablo 4 beta teaser debuted with a glimpse of this actual art installation and some of the incredible pieces of artwork that were on display there.

Diablo fans also received a tantalizing preview of some of the personalities and stories they will come across as they travel into The Burning Hells to fight Lilith, the Queen of Hate. Those who wish to actually see the artwork that is featured in the trailer can visit the Cathedral through June 11. The interior of the French cathedral has been fully covered with artwork from the Diablo video game that portrays Lilith, the Queen of the Succubi, in battle.

Blizzard claims that the structure has been deconsecrated, which means it is no longer considered to be a holy place, and that they have been given permission to decorate the French church. Incidentally, the church in issue is still listed as a historical monument, therefore the designers were unable to paint Diablo IV symbols directly on the structure. As a result, murals were painted on the former cathedral’s walls and ceiling.

Blizzard collaborated with renowned artist Adam Miller, whose paintings in the baroque style have been displayed in galleries all over the world, to create this enormous art setting. According to Blizzard, 20 paintings in total were created for the project, which included a 160-foot mural covering the cathedral’s back wall that took 30 days to complete.

Additionally, Blizzard has turned this undertaking into a contest for players. When the Diablo IV open beta launches later this month, those who choose to participate and reach the highest level will get the chance to have their image featured in the mural. Although not every fan will be able to visit the Cathedral of Diablo in France, this final beta event is free for all.

This isn’t the only publicity tactic that Blizzard Entertainment has recently pulled to promote Diablo 4. Many new Diablo-themed clothes made their debut at the Milan Fashion Week when the gaming company debuted its collaboration with the clothing line Han Kjøbenhavn.
