While it is true that the waters are calm in terms of news regarding Call of Duty League teams, in the last few hours, some reports surfaced indicating that the Minnesota RØKKR would be merging with G2 Esports for the upcoming season. However, this does not mean the team will change its name, at least for next season.

This is one of the longest-running rumors on social media regarding RØKKR, as we all know the financial problems that Version1, the team’s parent company, is having. However, it was not until a few hours ago that a report highlighted that the merger with G2 is a fact, but they will continue to play under the RØKKKR name.

Reports claim that RØKKKR are merging with G2 Esports for the 2024 CDL

According to esports journalist Jacob Hale, the Minnesota RØKKR will merge with G2 Esports for the upcoming Call of Duty League season. However, as mentioned, the team will not stop using its name for the next season.

As we can see from Hale’s report, it seems to be a fact that Minnesota RØKKR and G2 Esports will make the merger for the upcoming season. Similarly, it is worth noting that this information had been stalled for the past few months, as the last information was in late June.

Neither the Minnesota RØKKR nor G2 Esports have announced this possible merger. Still, for months now, everyone in the CDL community has known that the franchise was interested in  its CDL slot or going through with a

About the Minnesota RØKKR

As mentioned, the Minnesota RØKKR belongs to the esports organization Version1, which owns the Minnesota Vikings, an NFL team.

Minutes after Jacob Hale’s Twitter post, Brett Diamond, Version1’s representative, told Dexerto that everything would remain the same for the next Call of Duty League season, but everything could change before 2025.

It is no surprise to the community that teams decide to make “brand” changes in the Call of Duty League, as many teams have done so in the league’s history. On the other hand, two months ago, there were several reports that Activision would think of “forcing” organizations with teams in the CDL and OWL (Overwatch League) to merge their brands. Likewise, this does not apply to Version1 since they do not have an Overwatch team.

RØKKR has no active players on their Call of Duty squad, as they released all players in the lineup during the 2023 season. On the other hand, G2 Esports has several esports divisions, and, as we know, they are successful in almost all of them, so it is not far-fetched that they will return to the Call of Duty scene for the next seasons.
