After being one of the teams most singled out by fans on social media, OpTic Texas has taken a giant step ahead of the start of the 2023 Call of Duty League season by signing former L.A. Guerrillas player Cuyler “Huke” Garland.

All of these attacks the organization has received via social media are in the wake of the retirement of Brandon “Dashy” Otell, one of the organization’s longest-tenured core team members.

Let’s not forget that this (practically forced) change came after OpTic Texas failed to advance past the Group Stage of the Call of Duty League Stage One Major in December. The team that at times was considered the “Atlanta FaZe Killers” has failed to perform well in recent seasons.

OpTic and its inconsistent lineup

Last August 17, 2022, OpTic Texas released Dashy and Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal intending to sign new talent that could give the lineup a fresh face.

A day later, the organization decided to backtrack and re-sign the duo before the start of the Modern Warfare 2 season.

Since they attempted to make the Stage One Major playoff, OpTic Texas has not made public changes to their roster. Dashy said in different streams that he had been removed from the team. But, the organization has not confirmed this information.

On the other hand, some rumors circulated on Twitter about the possible signing of two players. They are Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson and Amer “Pred” Zulbeari, but neither of them happened (for now).

About Huke

As mentioned in a previous article, Huke was released from L.A. Guerrillas a few days ago. Now he has earned a spot in the lineup of one of the most prestigious organizations in the Call of Duty scene.

In addition to being one of the best players in Call of Duty history, Cuyler “Huke” Garland, only 23 years old, has managed to reap many significant triumphs throughout his career.

Moreover, he is reunited with two former teammates, iLLeY and Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro. This trio played under the Dallas Empire banner when they won the World Championship in 2020.

Bringing together different players who know what it is like to be world champions is a luxury for any team. Likewise, the players know they must show their best side. But they also know they still have the same level of play that took them to the top several seasons ago.

There is no doubt that Huke’s experience in the competitive Call of Duty scene will be fundamental in OpTic. In addition, his relationship with the rest of the team members will create extraordinary chemistry in the organization.

Only six days are left for this new team to show what they are made of. After that, they will face Boston Breach in the first game of Stage Two Major playoffs.
