The League of Legends community has been asking Riot Games for a long time to introduce new game modes so players don’t get bored or have new experiences in their favorite MOBA.

Riot Games has listened to the community and finally revealed some details about a new game mode that has been long awaited by the community and has been in development for some time. This is the Deathmatch game mode, a very popular mode in most online multiplayer video games that Riot had not considered for LoL until now.

Riot Games announces the arrival of Deathmatch mode

According to Rioter Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, who also holds the position of senior game producer within Riot Games, the Deathmatch game mode will be launched in LoL at the Summer 2023 event. This game mode will be 2v2, with many completely new mechanics and some features that will undoubtedly make the game challenging and fun for all players.

On the other hand, the new game mode will bring a new map; that is, it will not be played on Summoner’s Rift or any of the other maps used in the game’s history. In the video, the rioters confirmed that a new map is currently in development that will be used exclusively in this mode. In addition, they have shown some “sketches” of what this new map will look like. So, in summer 2023, many new and, hopefully, wonderful things are waiting for us in LoL.

As we observe in the image, which is a screenshot of the official Riot Games video, the map seems to have a circle shape. In addition, we can speculate that each team will start, as it has always been, in a specific area. On the other hand, we can predict that the center of the map, where the strongest battles will be fought, will have some structures that will intensify the fights.

Another feature that we can observe is water bodies and some areas with vegetation. These areas could serve as hiding places for players to plan strategies to take victories. As a result, this could benefit many champions and their combos, as there will be new gameplay, and they will have more new interactions on the map.

All-new mode

As announced by the rioters, the Deathmatch mode will look nothing like the different game modes released in League of Legends so far. In addition, players will only be able to level up, equip themselves with upgrades, and buy items between game rounds.

If we want to look at it another way, this Deathmatch mode could be inspired by Teamfight Tactics’ Double Up mode.
