The MENA Qualifier for DreamLeague S23 only had two important competitors. Team Falcons were directly invited to the tournament thanks to their impressive results at BetBoom Dacha Dubai and DreamLeague S22, where they won the trophy.

This gave Nigma Galaxy a wonderful opportunity to qualify for the $1 million tournament that will take place in May. But, to everyone’s surprise, they couldn’t do it despite having players like Miracle- and SumaiL. Here’s the story of how they failed for the nth time in the last several years.

Nigma’s DreamLeague S23 matches

Nigma started the tournament with a match against Fun Gamers and lost game 1 despite playing against a completely unknown opponent composed of Iranian players. That clearly indicated that they had major weaknesses in their game.

The 2nd and 3rd rounds were much more successful for Nigma and ended in just 18 minutes each. But the psychological damage had been done.

PSG Quest encountered Nigma in the upper bracket Final after defeating COPPYBEBRA. The match between the two favorites ended with a clear victory for Quest, who won the first game in 41 minutes and the second game in 32 minutes.

In game 1, their strategy revolved around delaying the action until Naga Siren had enough farm. To accomplish this, Techies was used in combination with Tiny.

In game 2, Mirana allowed Quest to get superior initiations against Nigma’s static cores. Kunka, Morphling, and Void Spirit finished the job with minimal risks.

Nigma dropped to the lower bracket after this loss, where they encountered COPPYBEBRA. The match was a mere formality. Game 1 lasted 17 minutes while game 2 was over in less than 20.

In the Grand Final, KuroKy’s ability to adapt to an opponent’s strategy would be tested. And to his credit, he did learn a lot from the first match. But not enough to win the Grand Final.

The two teams took turns winning games. Quest won game 1, then it was Nigma’s turn to win a game. Quest won again, and then Nigma equaled for the second time. In the final game, Nigma tried to bluff and picked Terrorblade for a totally unusual role, giving the hero to Matthew.

This strategy seemed to work for a while, and Nigma accumulated almost a 4000 gold lead until the 30-minute mark. But after that point, everything started to go wrong very quickly. And the game was lost in the next 15 minutes.
