What was an open secret has now become a reality! Karmine Corp (KCorp) has officially purchased the Astralis spot to join the LEC.

There is no doubt that this is extraordinary news not only for KCorp fans and the organization in general. However, the truth is that those who gain the most from this announcement are the rest of the teams and the LEC since we all know the popularity and media impact that KCorp has in France.

After several weeks of rumors, KCorp announced its entry into the LEC, where it will debut next season.

Riot Games announce KCorp’s entry to the LEC

Through a post on its official Twitter/X account, Riot Games (lolesports) announced that Karmine Corp is joining the LEC starting with the 2024 season. Also, the official statement made it known that the French organization bought Astralis’ place for a high sum of money.

This is not the first opportunity that Karmine Corp intends to enter the LEC. Recall that, in 2022, specifically in the last months of the year, KCorp tried to make this move. However, Riot Games denied the request for completely unknown reasons.

Now, a season after what happened, Kamel “Kameto” Kebir, the organization’s owner, began to give hints regarding KCorp’s entry into the LEC.

About Karmine Corp

While it is true that KCorp is not an old organization, we have to say that it is currently the most popular in France and one of the most popular in the European esports community.

Karmine Corp was founded in 2020, specifically in March, by Zouhair “Kotei” Darji and Kameto, two extremely popular content creators. At that time, the organization signed several esports divisions and quickly became a force reckoned with in France.

For example, in the LFL (French National League of Legends), KCorp rose to the top and completely dominated the scene. In addition, the team accumulated two LFL trophies and, most importantly, 4 championships in the EMEA Masters.

Departure of Astralis

The announcement of KCorp’s arrival in the LEC only raises a lot of expectations throughout the European LoL community. However, we cannot overlook that the departing organization is Astralis.

The Danish organization is one of the most decorated in esports history, especially in its Counter-Strike division. However, it is fair to mention that Astralis lasted only 3 years in the LEC, as let’s remember that they joined in 2020 when they bought Origen’s place.

During this time, Astralis did not have the desired success, as they could not win any of the splits they played and failed to qualify for Worlds. However, knowing that such a large and popular organization remained in Europe’s LoL competitive scene was always exciting.

KCorp stays in the LFL

Although Karmine Corp is joining the LEC, it will remain in the French regional league. According to Riot Games, KCorp can stay in the LFL if they compete in the LEC. However, it should be noted that this team will be the academy squad, so they will have their development project competing in the LoL Tier 2 scene.

Undoubtedly, the LEC will look completely different in 2024 with the inclusion of KCorp. Likewise, right now, we don’t know what the official Karmine Corp squad is for the upcoming season. Still, we can anticipate many good and extraordinary rivalries at the highest competitive level.

In addition, we should also mention that the great popularity of KCorp will help the LEC grow in terms of viewers in the official broadcasts.
