Julio leaves Ninjas in Pyjamas after four years

Julio “Julio” Giacomelli has announced his departure from Ninjas in Pyjamas’ Rainbow Six roster, ending a nearly four-year stint with the Brazilian team.

Julio first joined Ninja in Pyjamas in June 2018 and was a pivotal part of turning the team into one of the most dominant forces in Rainbow Six. Julio leaves the team as a Six Invitational champion and one of Brazil’s greatest Rainbow Six products.

Announcing his departure via a Twitlonger, Julio thanked the organization, saying that they “changed his life”. He went on to say reveal that he was open to offers to either continue his playing career or take on a coaching role.

Julio first joined Ninjas in Pyjamas in June 2018 after a stint with Black Dragon e-Sports, where he reached the semifinals of the Six Invitational 2018. At his first major tournament with NiP, DreamHack Valencia, he reached the quarterfinals. The team repeated the feat at the Six Major Paris.

The team struggled in 2019, winning the Pro League Season 10 title but failing to make it out of the group stage at either the Six Invitational or the Six Major Raleigh. After the pandemic-condensed 2020 season, NiP came into their own in 2021.

NiP took home the 2021 Six Invitational title and became a force to be reckoned with in regional play. After a disappointing appearance at the Six Major Mexico, the team bounced back, finishing second at the Six Major Sweden.

However, Julio’s departure comes after a poor start to the 2022 season. After failing to make it out of groups in their Six Invitational title defense, NiP didn’t qualify for the Copa Elite Six, ruling them out of the Six Major Charlotte.

As Stage 2 of the 2022 season approaches, both Julio and Ninjas in Pyjamas will be beginning new chapters in their storied Rainbow Six journeys.
