After several months and even years of hearing rumors about the Source 2 engine, a new game, it seems Valve has a secret that could be revealed very soon.

And, if you are a Counter-Strike lover, the first thing we can tell you is to hold on to your chair because the update or remastering of the game that you have been waiting for a long time is closer than you think. According to an NVIDIA driver update released yesterday, the Source 2 engine in a new game called “CS:GO 2” is coming.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 2

After many community members updated their NVIDIA graphics cards on March 1, they noticed something strange in the patch notes. It’s about support for two executables that so far are unknown but are named “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe”. There is no doubt that these are the best hints we have seen in recent times for Source 2.

As we see in the images posted by content creator GabeFollower, the terms “CSGOS2.exe” and “CS2.exe” are referenced in the NVIDIA game profile code. With that, the CS:GO community now expects us to have the new Source 2 sooner rather than later.

CS:GO finally leaps the Source 2 engine

The appearance of this profile on NVIDIA and the mention of these previously unknown executables suggests that the leak many months ago of bringing CS:GO to the Source 2 engine is imminent. Valve did this many years ago with their MOBA, Dota 2, and there is no doubt that CS:GO fans have long been waiting for it. In addition, the official CS:GO Twitter account changed its header image, which also sparked community speculation.

However, before we get too excited, remembering these rumors have existed for several years is worth remembering. Therefore, at the end of 2022, we could see a lot of information regarding that CS:GO 2 could be very close.

On the other hand, what would accompany this long-awaited update of Valve’s shooter is a mystery. Recently, it has also been rumored that the game could have a name change. Instead of CS:GO, it would be renamed just Counter-Strike. This would make the game a video game with a permanent name lasting over the years.

The skin market would be affected

Even though we have all been waiting for this update for years, Valve would have to get down to planning the skin market transition. This is their golden goose; they can’t lose it just like that. The community market would be the main one affected by part of this update, which would hurt the company’s revenue.

On the other hand, in the last two months, we have seen the “renaissance” of CS:GO breaking its records regarding concurrent players, and drastically changing this game may ruin this success. However, many might think that this may attract more players, but let’s remember that Valve has been characterized by presenting a more demanding game (in terms of PC requirements) in each update. This means a new game would be practically impossible for those currently playing CS:GO with a low-end PC.

This information has caused a stir in the community since it was released, and there is no doubt that it excites us all. However, in the same way, we must wait for Valve to confirm or deny this information or launch the new game without explaining.
