Is Muerta an unreleased heroine from Dota 1?

During the International 2022, developer Valve decided to tease fans with the new Dota 2 hero, Muerta. Unfortunately, the teaser didn’t provide us with much information, apart from the possible release date. Later, a post surfaced on Reddit, hinting that Muerta may be an unreleased heroine from the original Dota 1.

The game of Dota has been around for a really long time, with its history going back more than a decade. That’s why loyal Dota players don’t need leaks or detailed skill tooltips to learn more about upcoming heroes. You might just have to remember heroes from Dota 1 that didn’t make it into the sequel back then.

Isn’t Muerta that new?

Apparently, Muerta could be one of the heroines who were deleted at the time. Before Primal Beast found its way into Dota 2, the item Gleipnir was introduced, which roots him and other enemies with chains. Patch 7.31 introduced the Revenant’s Brooch, which actually belonged to the Ghost Revenant – a hero from Dota 1 that wasn’t released.

The author of the aforementioned Reddit post writes that there is a connection between the Dota lore and the release of new content in the Dota game. According to the lore, there Gleipnir came first, so that Primal Beast could be tamed. Furthermore, in the game,  the item was added first, and then came the hero. Because the last patch introduced the new (old) brooch, the author of the Reddit post believes that Muerta is actually the Ghost Revenant from Dota 1 that never made it into the game.

Voice lines provide clues

The Redditor also references PA Persona’s voice lines. These suggest that Ghost Revenant is a female hero who served as a mother figure for PA. She also appeared in Artifact playing the role of the banished Veiled Sisters’ guardian.

This is also mentioned in PA Persona’s voice lines. When asked how he can be so sure, the Redditor gives a hint about leftovers in the PA Persona Voice Lines. They suggest his mother will appear in the game as well. The names of their abilities were leaked too: Grave Grapple, Life Link, Soul Swell and True Love.

 

Muerta was probably revealed 2 years ago by another dataminer. At that time, she was codenamed Corpse Mother and Hero Mars was also made public in this leak. There’s a lot to suggest, but as always, these rumors and leaks should be treated with a grain of salt.
