The top eight teams of the European RMR A have finally been decided. There’s only one tiebreaker left to be played, to determine the fourth Legend that will get to start the IEM Rio Major in The Legends Stage. But other than that, we now know who will go to the Major and who has failed to qualify.

Unfortunately, for a lot of CS:GO fans, this qualification tournament was a sad one. G2 Esports and Astralis, two of the world’s highest ranked teams, will not play at the Major and will most likely have to consider making some serious roster changes again.

Both teams have brought in several new players in 2022 and it seems that not all of the new members are good enough to succeed at the tier-1 level. It’s one thing to fail at a big event and it’s another thing to fail to even qualify for it.

In the case of G2, Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen might be asked to step down as IGL. In the case of Astralis it’s not that obvious what must be changed to bring the team back to a higher level of competence.

Recently, there have been rumors that Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz might be coming back and that his next team will most likely be Astralis. If that’s the case, then one of the new Astralis members will have to be benched or sold to a different organization.

European RMR A results

These are the eight teams that survived the first European RMR for IEM Rio Major:

  • FaZe Clan: 3 W – 0 L
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas: 3 W – 0 L
  • Sprout: 3 W – 1 L
  • Team Spirit: 3 W – 1 L
  • Cloud9: 3 W – 1 L
  • Bad News Eagles: 3 W – 2 L
  • Team GamerLegion: 3 W – 2 L
  • Fnatic: 3 W – 2L

There have been a lot of surprising results in this tournament. Sprout have demonstrated incredible talent and potential during the matches and Ismail “refrezh” Ali is probably happy that he chose to be the IGL of this team after parting ways with Heroic.

NiP were another team that impressed, finishing with a perfect score despite encountering Astralis and two other qualified teams (Bad News Eagles and Cloud9) along the way.

Even though not that many people expected to see them triumph, Team GamerLegion defeated G2 Esports in their elimination match and then won against B8 to qualify for their first CS:GO Major.

Finally, Fnatic managed to secure a qualification spot after coming very close to elimination. It seems that under the leadership of William “mezii” Merriman, the new roster has finally found a winning formula.
