The playoffs stage of IEM Katowice is about to begin. Just six of the original 24 teams are left in the race, and in the next three days they will compete for more than $800.000 and a lot of prestige.

Most of the competitors have reached this stage despite not being counted among the favorites. Team Falcons, MOUZ, ENCE, and even Team Spirit were regarded as underdogs at the start of the tournament. But now we know that they are all very strong teams.

In the coming weeks and months, the likes of Team Vitality, Natus Vincere, and Astralis will need to work hard to figure out how they can stay competitive. Because for the first time in years, a lot of former underdogs are starting to surpass them.

IEM Katowice playoffs participants

Here are the six teams that will compete in the playoffs of IEM Katowice 2024:

  • ENCE
  • Team Falcons
  • FaZe Clan
  • G2 Esports
  • Team Spirit
  • MOUZ

In theory, based on the world rankings, FaZe Clan and G2 Esports should be the favorites here. But after the group stage, we can clearly say that Team Spirit are likely to win the tournament. However, because both FaZe Clan and G2 Esports are in the same bracket, one of them is likely to reach the Grand Final.

Despite MOUZ’s excellent group stage performance, I don’t think they have enough experience to defeat either of these two teams. What will be exciting to see is which of them is going to win the quarterfinals match. Whenever FaZe Clan and G2 meet each other at an S-tier CS2 event, it’s a great opportunity to watch some world-class action.

Spirit is the big favorite because they have two players who are in excellent form right now: sh1ro and donk. The second one of these players is said to be better than m0NESY, which is not something you hear every day. At the age of just 17, donk plays with unbelievable consistency and prowess. Rarely do we get to see someone as good as he is at such a young age.

Another interesting team to watch will be ENCE. After defeating Astralis, Team Vitality, and G2 Esports in the play-in stage and the group stage, ENCE could easily defeat Team Falcons in the quarterfinals. It’s doubtful that they will manage to beat Spirit in the semifinals, but Falcons are certainly a beatable opponent.
