IEM Katowice day 1 results

Day 1 of IEM Katowice 2024 ended with a lot of disturbing upsets. Teams like Cloud9, Astralis, and FURIA Esports risk going home much earlier than they had planned. The best-of-one format clearly took him by surprise and they were not ready for what their opponents prepared against them.

All of these teams will have a second chance to qualify for the group stage by winning two consecutive matches in the lower bracket, but it won’t be easy. Because teams like BetBoom Team, ENCE, Apeks, and BIG have also dropped to the lower bracket.

Day 1 results

Cloud should have easily won against Rebels Gaming, who are ranked 118^th. But they lost 10 – 13 on Mirage, leaving no doubt in their fans’ minds that the roster needs to be changed again. It’s not entirely clear whether Boombl4’s tactics aren’t working or if some of the main players, such as Perfecto and Ax1Le, are not implementing them correctly.

There’s also the option that Rebels are extremely underrated at the moment. The performance of two of their players, olimp and kisserek, was absolutely impressive.

Eternal Fire defeated BetBoom with a score of 13 – 1. Despite nafany’s best efforts, BetBoom were destroyed in this match. EF won their next match as well, sending Rebels to the lower bracket.

The most important match of the day was the one between Heroic and Astralis. Everyone expected Astralis to win. Both jabbi and stavn needed a victory to prove a point, but things didn’t go as planned. The final score was 13 – 11. Heroic then went on to win against BIG as well (2 – 1) and qualified for the group stage.

The battle between ENCE and BIG was won by BIG (9 – 13), largely thanks to prosus. His 22 – 13 performance was by far the best on the server.

FURIA somehow lost against The MongolZ. They played well, but their opponents were obviously hungry to make a name for themselves. Senzu and Techno had exceptional individual performances.

Team Spirit demoralized Apeks by defeating them 13 – 0. It seems that donk’s reputation is 100% deserved. Chopper and sh1ro also played well.

GamerLegion had a few problems against M80 but ended up winning 13 – 10 on Nuke thanks to reck’s individual performance: 24 – 17.

Virtus.pro had no problems against Rooster and won the match 13 – 4. Jame was the best player on the server with a rating 2.0 of 2.01.
