IEM Fall is about to start in Europe and CIS. The competition doesn’t offer huge prizes but it’s still important for the world’s best teams because of the RMR and ESL Pro Tour points.

IEM Fall Details

IEM Fall is taking place in 6 regions: Europe, CIS, North America, South America, Asia, and Oceania.

IEM Fall Europe

The European competition is scheduled to be played between September 29th – October 10th. It features the best 24 teams in the region and uses a sophisticated format. Initially, the teams are divided into 4 groups of 6. The top 2 teams from each group advance to the Playoffs. The 3rd place team from every group advances to the 9th – 12th place tiebreaker. The bottom 3 teams are eliminated.

All Group Stage matches are Bo1. All Playoffs matches are Bo3, apart from the Grand Final. The Playoffs Stage consists of a single-elimination tournament. However, there will be a 3rd place match, as well as 5th – 6th place matches, a 5th place match, and a 7th place match.

Based on this structure, you may have guessed that only the top 11 teams receive RMR points.

IEM Fall CIS

The CIS competition takes place between September 29th – October 3rd. Its number of participants is only 12 and they will be divided into 2 groups of 6. The top 2 teams from each group advance to the Playoffs. The 3rd place teams will play a 5th place tiebreaker.

Predictions

The groups of the European and CIS tournaments are the following:

Europe

Group A:

  • BIG
  • G2 Esports
  • mousesports
  • FunPlus Phoenix
  • Copenhagen Flames
  • AURA

The favorites in this group are mousesports and BIG. G2 is also a very strong competitor but its recent results suggest that it is on a downward spiral.

Group B:

  • Heroic
  • Astralis
  • Complexity Gaming
  • Sinners Esports
  • Endpoint
  • Movistar Riders

Astralis and Heroic have no real opponents in this group. The third place is up for grabs and the team that’s most likely to take it is Complexity.

Group C:

  • Team Vitality
  • OG
  • Sprout
  • Dignitas
  • ENCE
  • MAD Lions

This is a challenging group with a lot of teams that are close to each other in terms of strength. The big favorites are Vitality and OG, but ENCE and MAD Lions shouldn’t be underestimated.

Group D:

  • FaZe Clan
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Fnatic
  • SKADE
  • Team Fiend
  • Double Poney

It’s almost certain that the top 3 places in this group of IEM Fall Europe will be occupied by FaZe Clan, NiP, and Fnatic. The only question is: in what order? Based on what we’ve seen in recent weeks, NiP seems to be the favorite.

CIS

Group A:

  • Natus Vincere
  • Team Spirit
  • Entropiq
  • Nemiga Gaming
  • AVE
  • Akuma

Na’Vi and Team Spirit don’t have a real opponent in this group. The number one spot will almost certainly be occupied by Na’Vi. Their strength at this point is unparalleled.

Group B:

  • Gambit Esports
  • pro
  • forZe
  • K23
  • Team Unique
  • INDE IRAE eSports

Clearly, Gambit, Virtus.pro, and forZe are the 3 teams you should be keeping an eye on in this group. In particular, Gambit should easily win, followed by VP. One thing to note, however, is that VP is not in great shape right now and might lose 2nd place to forZe.
