IEM Chengdu’s playoffs stage is about to begin. But before it starts, let’s take a look at what happened in the group stage.

Group A Results

In group A of IEM Chengdu, MOUZ unsurprisingly won and advanced directly to the playoffs. What is however surprising is that they came very close to losing in their first two matches. The one against TYLOO finished 13 – 11, while the one against FURIA Esports finished 2 – 1. The map scores were 13 – 8, 14 – 16, 9 – 13.

In the match against Team Liquid, MOUZ won the first map 11 – 13. The second map was much easier to win: 6 – 13.

In the lower bracket, G2 Esports had to win just two matches to advance to the playoffs. They won the first against Lynn Vision (2 – 0) and then proceeded to do the same against HEROIC. However, in the second match, the scores were very close: 10 – 13 on Ancient and 13 – 16 on Nuke.

Group B Results

In group B of IEM Chengdu, Astralis shocked the world by crushing all opposition. In their first match, against Steel Helmet, the score was 13 – 2. Dev1ce was the MVP with a personal score of 21 – 4 and a rating 2.0 of 2.00. And let’s not forget that he’s the IGL now!

The second match was supposed to be much tougher because Astralis’ opponent was FaZe Clan, who finished the Copenhagen Major in 2nd place. By dev1ce simply didn’t care. The scores were 7 – 13 on Ancient and 4 – 13 on Nuke.

The entire match was a masterclass in which the Danes played incredibly well, with the possible exception of br0. But even he was of great use to the team. Once again, dev1ce had an excellent score despite having IGL duties. It seems that he can perform two roles simultaneously without suffering a performance decline.

In the upper bracket Final, Astralis defeated Virtus.pro 13 – 6, 13 – 7. It’s hard to explain how a team that didn’t even qualify for the Major managed to beat some of the world’s best competitors so easily. It seems that naming dev1ce as the new IGL was a fantastic idea.

In the lower bracket, FaZe Clan won after beating Cloud9 and FlyQuest. In both games, they struggled on one of the maps. But the score was still 2 – 0. The team was hard-carried by frozen in both matches.
