IEM Chengdu Day 1 Group A Results

The first day of IEM Chengdu had some really close and spectacular matches. It looks like Team Liquid are finally playing well as a group and that helped them qualify for the upper bracket Final despite facing tough opponents like HEROIC and G2 Esports.

In other matches, MOUZ did what they do best. At PGL Major Copenhagen, this team had multiple 13 – 11 victories. Here, they’re doing the same thing.

They defeated TYLOO 13 – 11 and then won against FURIA Esports 2 – 1 after losing the first map and being close to losing the second one as well despite winning the first half 2 – 10. The final scores were 13 – 8 on Nuke, 14 – 16 on Vertigo, and 9 – 13 on Mirage.

9z Team and TYLOO are already eliminated. Both of them lost twice in a row. They played much better than expected but it wasn’t enough. Their opponents were just a bit stronger.

G2 Esports were carried by NiKo and nexa in the first match, but ended up losing the second match because m0NESY did not receive enough support. His individual score was great, 56 – 40, but everyone else on his team had a negative score.

MOUZ looked very shaky for a top 5 team that’s competing against relatively modest opponents. However, thanks to their unique style, they still won their matches and will play in the upper bracket Final against Liquid to determine who advances directly to the semifinals of IEM Chengdu.

For Team Liquid, Twistzz has had a great tournament so far. The Canadian player is starting to perform at his usual level. Back when he was competing for FaZe, he was constantly either the best or second-best player on the team after ropz.

In the first two matches of IEM Chengdu, he was by far the best fragger for Liquid and the main reason why they’re in the upper bracket Final.
