Gen.G is embarking on an exciting journey to rebuild its Valorant roster for 2024 VCT Pacific through open tryouts, seeking the next esports superstar in Asia.

As the competitive VALORANT scene in Asia continues to gather momentum, organizations vying for success are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to unearth hidden talent. Gen.G, one of South Korea’s premier esports organizations, is no exception. Following a season that, while not disastrous, didn’t live up to the high expectations, Gen.G has embarked on an ambitious journey to rebuild their VALORANT roster for 2024 through open tryouts.

While Gen.G’s 2023 season didn’t end in disaster, it certainly didn’t meet the sky-high expectations associated with the organization’s move from North America to Asia at the onset of Riot Games’ partnership stage. The team initially showed promise with a 4-0 start in VCT Pacific, but this momentum faded as they suffered five consecutive losses, concluding the regular season with a subpar record. Gen.G narrowly missed securing spots in both the Masters and Champions tournaments by a mere point and ultimately faced defeat against Team Secret in the Pacific LCQ.

Gen.G follows the growing trend of open tryouts

The decision to hold open tryouts is not unique to Gen.G, as other teams like ZETA DIVISION and Detonation FocusMe have similarly embraced this approach to restructure their lineups following the 2023 season. The organization’s move could also be influenced by the success stories of teams like Evil Geniuses, who discovered talent like Max “Demon1” Mazanov through a similar process, eventually leading to him becoming a world champion in 2023.

While finding a player with the potential to be the world’s best remains a long shot, the buzz generated by EG’s success has spurred a growing interest in public tryouts in Asia.

Gen.G’s VALORANT squad, which has been significantly reduced to just two players, is now on a quest to rebuild its ranks for the 2024 season. The team’s disappointing performance in VCT LOCK//IN and subsequent absence from international LAN events, including VCT Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions, has prompted this overhaul.

Gen.G’s recruitment drive has officially kicked off, echoing a trend seen among various teams participating in VCT Pacific during this offseason. Prospective players looking to join Gen.G’s VALORANT roster must meet certain qualifications, including holding an APAC Radiant rank and having a clean in-game record, free from bans or elo-boosting.

Additionally, candidates with competitive VALORANT experience, awards in other FPS titles, and bilingual communication skills in English and Korean are preferred. Applicants can submit their applications via email to the address provided by Gen.G, where successful candidates will undergo a series of trials and interviews.
