The VALORANT Champions Tour offseason is on fire, as teams are gearing up to dominate the scene regionally and internationally.

One of the teams that have signed different local talents has been Gen.G, who have done a total rebuild to try to turn their level of play around after a disappointing 2023. After T1 snatched Lee “k1Ng” Seung-won from them, Gen.G struck back by signing Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom from T1.

Gen.G announces signing of Munchkin

Through a post on its official Twitter/X account, Gen.G Esports announced the signing of Munchkin ahead of the upcoming VCT season.

Munchkin becomes Gen.G’s third signing in this 2023 VCT offseason.

The 25-year-old Korean started his career in the VALORANT competitive scene playing for Cloud9 Korea in 2020. However, in early 2021, he made the jump to Crazy Raccoon, where he was the mainstay of the team by leading them to different international tournaments, including the VALORANT Champions 2021.

Then, in May 2022, Munchkin signed for T1, a team he played with for over a year, and helped them play all three VCT international tournaments in 2023.

However, for 2024, Munchkin joins a rebuilding Gen.G lineup with a really good roster of Korean talent. As a result, it is expected that, like their LoL division, Gen.G can make a quality leap in 2024 in the VALORANT competitive scene and are one of the favorites to win the VCT Pacific League.

T1 had a lot of problems in 2023

All of us who followed the VCT Pacific League in 2023 witnessed the problems T1 had throughout the season. In addition to having a team somewhat lacking in talent, many came from other esports, which always made it difficult for them to have a solid squad.

Similarly, although T1 had many problems in international tournaments, we cannot forget that they had a great performance in the VCT Pacific League 2023 at the end of the regular season. As a result, the team managed to finish in third place in the regional league, and thanks to this, they earned their place in the VALORANT Champions 2023.

Finally, in the VCT Champions 2023, T1 was eliminated in the Group Stage after losing to FÜT Esports twice, despite beating FunPlus Phoenix in the Group B Elimination Match.

Munchkin reunites with Gen.G

Now, Munchkin’s arrival to Gen.G is a reunion since, let’s remember, the 25-year-old veteran was part of this Korean organization when he played Overwatch in 2017.

Now, Gen.G is searching for the last signing to complete its squad to start preparing in the best way for the VCT Pacific League 2024 and, of course, for the international tournaments 2024.
